Lord Plunderer? 0

Cover  This is an average cover with great colors.  I think the large banner below the title takes away from the image, but what we see, while it is represented in the book, it is not exactly popping.  Summary The book opens with Ka-zar being attacked by a giant man eating plant, and Daredevil being attacked by the last of the Ape Men. A creature named Maa Gor. Both of them fight hard to make their escape. In the mean time the Plunderer is searching for Daredevil. He comes across Hornhead in the...

Ka-Zar not Tarzan 0

After a decent tale in the last two issues, we return to a childish one where all the characters are their own best P.R. agents. Tons of silver age silliness, including the old chest nut that has 2 heroes fighting each other before they decide to talk with each other.  In this case Ka-Zar and Daredevils first meeting is a panel showing DD hitting Ka-Zar at the same time he is telling him he does not want to hurt him.   It isn't all bad, we get some Jack Kirby layouts, i always have said that was...

DD Vs. Animal Men 0

There are just certain types of villains that turn me off of a comic book story. These villains as animal types do the trick. I even hate the Ani Men in the X-men. Still, there is a little bit to be said about Wally Woods first attempt at writing Daredevil. What could have been a disaster, kind of turned out okay.   For some reason the team of villains are only sent out on solo missions by the "Organizer" and they never attack DD as a team.  On the other hand the plot elements are intriguing, a...

Say What? 0

This issue is one big contrivanece or  contrivence, I can't really spell all that well. Any way, turns out that Karens friend the eye surgeon who she is trying to set Matt up with lives in a small country that just so happens to be ruled by a guy who Matt went to school with.  So he goes to this small country, only to find out that  the old school chum king wants Matt and the eye doctor to help him build Robots.   Nope, I am not kidding. He brings a lawyer and an eye doctor to build robots. Now...

Stilts Of Death 0

I have always wondered how a guy who is on stilts could give DD a run for his money?  I would not expect him to show up in todays books. Then again the same could be said for a lot of Silver age villains. However for his time, Stilt Man turned out to be pretty cool.  He is all defense though. Not a whole heck of a lot of offensive capabilities.   The way he is dispatched at the end has to be one of the strangest for the title.  I kind of liked it. As well as the battle that preceeded it.  Thank...

Mr. Fear and The Ox 0

Sometimes the simplicity of Stan Lees writing is just amazing. The way Daredevil dispatches Mr. Fear in this issue could be right out of the old Superfriends cartoon.  That is not to say this isn't a good book. It has a good sense of fun, and it is funny to see them use the "economy of characters" in a comic book.   For those who do not know, the economy of characters is a way of saving money for tv and film productions, by only giving main actors something to say and do.  Not really necessary i...

Finding Footing 0

In this issue we meet the Purple Man. His strange skin gives him the power of suggestion over those who can see him.   This is probably the best of the Daredevil books up to this point. Stan writes an interesting villain, and almost uses him to full effect.  There is a moment of the Purple Man doing something out of character because the script calls for it.    This gives the beginning of the book a false and forced feeling to the story.  Yet as the book continues, the story becomes better.  Jo...

The Owl Takes Glide 0

This issue is the debut of the sinister OWL.  We meet him as he is being investigated for fraud. With the illusion of a legitimate buisnessman is shed, he decides to put together a criminal gang.  In one of the more unbelievable scenes, The Owl drops two henchman down a pit only to save them to show his power to them.   Neither the sharpshooter, or the superstrong henchman then turn to him and beat him senseless. Gliding does not help you on the ground.  Things get better as we return to the ci...

Second issue fail 0

The cover looks kind of ridiculous. Fitting considering what goes on inside.  In this story the Thing comes into the offices of Nelson and Murdoch to hire them as lawyers.  They then leave and as the Baxter Building is empty, Electro  takes advantage of this time to try and steal some of Reed Richards designs.   Matt Murdoch however has decided to check on the FF to see if he will take them as clients and ends up batteling Electro. This is where the story just flies off the rails.  Even in Sp...

Tigra School 0

We see that Greer is now in the police academy, and she quickly sets up a relationship with one of the senior instructors. Their relationship goes a little far, but one night she is kidnapped, and after fighting her way through her kidnappers is offered a place in the Blue Fist cult.   At this point, the writing in the book has gotten to the point of bringing all that is good with the book, the plot just has way too many holes and conveniences in it.  The dialogue can only be found in a comic ...

Tigra Clues 0

In this issue we see Greer mourning her dead husband.  An old cop friend approaches her with an envelope. He uncovered new evidence about the death of her husband.  The next night she is out as Tigra and runs into what looks like a gang initiation. After her fight she finds out that the group was made up of cops.  She talks to Cap and Wasp about setting up an undercover operation where she poses as a cop.    The art is good. I liked it, but the hardly noticed inker may be the real hero of the ...

Setting Up The Next Storyline 0

In this issue we see a pissed off Dick Grayson and Damian finally catch up to Hush. They set him up with some rules for acting like Bruce Wayne, and show him the force of people who will be watching over him.  In the mean time, we see that Black Mask has the Penguin under his thumb, and at the Penguins club, Black Mask sets himself up as Zzazzzs benefactor, and sets him against the world.   Another good issue, however this is just a set up issue. Mostly dialogue. Although well written dialogue....

All Art No Story 0

This Elseworld book places Bruce Wayne and Batman into the story of Frankenstien.  In this case Bruce Wayne suffers the loss of his Father during a highway robbery. As he holds his dying father, he makes a vow to become a doctor. He does, and his expirements are all focused on raising dead tissue.   When he finds an underground cavern filled with old body parts, including his fathers brain, he decides to give his father new life.   This book is all atmosphere. The story, much like the original m...

Fire Bombing Gotham 0

In this issue we see the chaos caused by last issues cliffhanger.  Firefly has implanted many Gothamites with a substance that can set them on fire from within at Fireflys command.  Hush takes advantage of the chaos and uses it to escape his prison in the cave.  In the mean time Black Mask confronts Firefly, and is shown that he was no longer in Black Masks control.   This book continues to impress me. The sense of chaos is palpable, and the use of Firefly is just top notch. I probably like ma...

Batman Vs. New Krypton 0

In this issue when Krypton was destroyed, its people had heeded the warnings of Jor El and traveled to Earth, where in the name of peace and stability to the Earths inhabitants, they take over.  Cut to 30 years, and the Batman is throwing a wrench into the Kryptonians plans. This inspires Kal El to question if his people are in the right.  COVER  Mignolia has drawn all of the Superman Elseworld Anuals, and so far this is my favorite. Otherwise known as The Suicide Squad. COVER  One more time the cover is dead on with its description of what goes on in the book. The World Turns 0

SUMMARY :  This issue shows us that in the short time between issues 1 and 2, Glorious Godfrey has managed to turn the public against the heroes.  Even after saving a bunch of people in a bank, the public turns on Batman and Robin. Blue Beetle is fingered as the "Big Man" in a drug ring by the very dealer he was taking down, and Guy Gardner is attacked by the people he saved in a plane crash.  COVER : Once again John Byrne comes through with a descriptive, and dynamic cover. Sentinel? 1

This book seemed as if it were nothing but a way to sell the public on one of DCs biggest mistakes. The de aging of the Golden Age Green Lantern. This time instead of going straight for the hero, Neron targets the heroes family. Specifically, the Green Lantern ( Sentinel ) wife.    Because Seentinel is now a young man again, she feels inadequate and old. So she makes a deal with Neron to make her young again. So Sentinel grabs a bunch of DC magicians and goes to hell to find redemption for his w...

First to blink loses 0

In this issue Darksieds elite wage war against each other to see who can take control of Apocalypse now that Darksied is out of the picture.  Neron shows up to take advantage of the greed and desire felt by each of them. This helps to escalate things between all of them. Yet at the end of the day, Apocalypse shows up to remind them who is the real ruler of Apocalypse.   As a chapter of the Underworld mini series, I think this book fails. After all, it barely has any thing to do with what is goin...

Shooting Flowers In The Head 0

In this issue we are introduced to and see the quick demise of the Black Orchid, at the hands of a very buisnesslike crime syndicate. This is a shock and a point of dispair to professor Phil Sylvian who we find out later created Black Orchid and her sisters by combining plant DNA with that of his dead wife and daughter   This is a bit of an odd duck of a superhero book, if for no other reason than that the heroine of the story is killed within the first few pages. After that this book is pure in...

Almost Perfect 0

So, I finally caught up with this movie, and I really enjoyed it. Not being schooled by the graphic novels first, I had no idea that basically the writers wanted to make a video game with a full fledged story rather than a movie with a thin story. What you get is kind of a mix of the two, that will probably be either loved or hated. I can't imagine too many fence sitter with this film. This is a very styalised action comedy. Thankfully to me it worked on all three levels. The risk that Edgar W...

Short read of a book, short review : New Mutants #7 0

SUMMARY: In this issue we find that the Hellions have also been brought back to life.  Cover : This cover looks okay, but sucks pretty much if you think it is an advertisement for whats inside. INTERIORS: For once in this series the interiors art is better than the cover. Not a grand feat, but it is a fact nontheless. STORY: Ultimately the issue is a boring one. It is an obligatory cross over issue.
