Manages to keep it's head up 0

This book is almost entirely set up for what is going to happen in the rest of the story. It's not bad by any stretch of the imagination, yet this is the first time the series had this since issue # 1. The other stories seemed to flow better. That being said, it is still a very strong book. It only suffers when compared to other books in the series. I do like the idea of the astronaughts, it's a clever twist. The fight on the train bordered on the ridiculous, but managed to stay on the light si...

WHAT...??? HM...?? HUH? 0

Okay, so the six villains assembled here, ( Electro, Kraven The Hunter, Dock Ock, Sandman, Mysterio & The Vulture ) team up, and while they plan what to do about Spiderman Kraven acknowledges that none of them were able to defeat him alone. The rest agree, and Doc Ock says " I have a fool proof plan " and it consists of them fighting Spiderman one on one. Not only that, but after each battle, they give him a card telling him where to meet up with the next villain. Seriously, this annual sho...

Very Well Done 0

I have said in many reviews of the older Spiderman issues that what it is lacking is character moments. This is an entire issue, that deals with a young man ( Peter of course ) whose mane concern is not the "bad guy of the month" but of how he is going to pay bills, and make sure his Aunt has the medicine she needs. Some of the ideas are clever. Some are obvious, still it is good to see the man behind the mask being explored. I would appreciate a more real life situation ( the "medicine May nee...

Return To Glory 0

I have to admit that so far Shooters run on this book has me looking forward to reading the book again. For awhile I was afraid I was reading the LOS out of sheer loyalty. I have given up almost every title I have collected because I realised I was doing just that. Here however, my wait paid off. Shooter has made this book fun again. This particular issue has tons of action, and some really good character moments, I always thought it was funny that the biggest hero team in either the Marvel or D...

Train Ride 0

I actually wonder if the world would go to pot as quickly as it did in this book. Okay so their aren't any men, and true some jobs are very male heavy, but still, I think there would be a lot of very capable women learning to do a lot of new things. That being said, this is another very good issue of a character based series. Granted the fight scene seemed to be added by the question, gee how do we have them NOT ride all the way across country on a train? Yet, it worked, and their are some good...

Kraven The Hunters Big Intro 0

I actually like this book, once again some decent ideas are brought out. I don't think they were used to their full potential, but still, Stan the man did a few things right. My favorite was having Spiderman beating the snott out of Kraven with only one hand. I also liked the way Chameleon and Kraven worked together. Niether one could defeat him alone so they teamed up. Of course as alsome balls do have to be fumbled.. The one thing I really would have liked was to see the Liz Allen, Betty Bra...

Rather Silly 1

This isn't the dumbest comic book plot I have ever read, but it does come close. IIt is kind of funy to see the Goblin flying around on a broomstick rather than his glider. However once again the action his well paced and fun. The supporting characters are right back into doing the same thing over and over. Except Liz Allen who is now a big fan of Peter Parkers, and Betty Brant, whose every waking moment seems to be spent on worrying about wether Peter still loves her. I know I have either all...

Enter Mysterio, and a psychiatrist 1

It almost happened, Stan Lee almost made a move that would surely have been original, and would have treated Spiderman in a way no other hero had ever been. He almost had him go to therapy. Unfortunately Spiderman runs out at the last minute. Sad, considering anyone who has ever read Peter Davids run on X-factor knows how interesting a Superhero in therapy can be. Of course now what I am talking about only takes up maybe four panels of the book. The majority is spent on the battle between Spide...

ENFORCE THIS!!!!! 0

Well, it appears that Miss Bett Brant has a bit of a secret, we find out here that she owes money to the crime boss, called with all sorts of origininality "The Big Man" . Of course J. Jonah Jameson believes that Spiderman is "The Big Man" and asks one of his reporters to write a series of articles to prove it. He doesn't learn all that well considering this is the same stupid thing he did in issue number nine. I always have felt, I can be put into any story any fantasy, so long as it obeys it's...

Finally character growth 0

At least a little, when Peter Parker and Betty Brant finally start to show what they are feeling. Also this issue shows that J. Jonah Jameson is not all that bright. He decides to print that Spiderman and Electro are the same person. Without hard evidence. Seriously, he used the same theory that had midevil scientists believe that flays grew out of old meat. The increased stupidity of our favorite Marvel news paper editor aside, this once again is a fun book to read, and Electros introduction g...

Not Quite There Yet 0

Spiderman meets the nefarious Dr. Doom in this issue. Dr. Doom hopes to recruit Spiderman, then of course when he is finished with him, destroy him. I liked many aspects of the book. I did not like the frequent use of Doom Bots, one of the worst creations from Marvel, along with Nick Furys LMD's . Every time Spiderman thinks he has the upper hand, "no You fool, that was a Doom Bot" Still, it was a fun book. At this point the side characters are nothing more than caricatures, only around to say ...

Beware The Moobs 1

The first appearance of Doctor Octapuss, the only villain to defeat Spiderman, while sporting Man-boobs. Over all I like this book. The art is top notch for the time. Stan Lee does have a flair for the dramatic prose " You dare to challenge me, the great Dr. Octapus" yet it flows and for some reason works. Even though my brain is yelling at me about how cheesy the dialogue is. Once again, a villain is able to take a punch from Spiderman even though he has no physical super power. Oh, also somet...

I Never Understood 0

Seriously, I never understood why the vulture was not one of those villains who just went away. As villains goes, his look is one of a very old and frail man, and why is it that just because he has wings he can take a punch from a man who can lift 10 tons ( according to the Marvel Universe handbook ) ? I understand comics were not as mature as they are today. Back then they were still seen as something only kids read, on that level the two stories here work pretty good. The way the vulture stor...

End Of Chapter One 0

Yorrick has a dream, a pretty bad one. A good touch I thought, too many of these holocaust type films or books have the characters responding way to well to traumatic experiences such as these. Nightmares should be expected. With the addition of Dr. Mann to the equation the humor of the book picks up quite well, a good thing in a series about a serious subject. The drama with the Amazons made the book for me. I hate zealots and extremists no matter their beliefs. It also shows the hold the l...

Out in The World 0

I feel with this book the series is finally taking off. That's not to say the series has been bad. One look at the scores tells that isn't the case. It's just that with 355 and Yorrick on the road, we get to see how the "plague" effected the rest of the world. Let me go off on a tangent though. Okay, I can not see any reason to have the only man in the world risking his life on a quest, when there are any number of bunkers and hide outs they could have placed him in. There is no reason to endan...

A Debate Ensues !!!! 0

So the wives of the dead congressmen come to DC to forcably take their dead husbands seats. Yorricks mother meets them outside and what happens is actually a pretty cool debate. What would be the political ramifications of a world where suddenly all the men died? If you were looking for action in the way most comic books give it this book would not come off well. Seriously all this book is is a long political discussion... with the presence of guns. There are a few people who get shot. One of t...

Mr. Y goes to washington 0

Yorrick Ventures out of his apartment to find his family. He instead finds a supermodel and a garbage truck. One of the two wants to sell him for food. This is the kind of thing that makes this series great. Showing the dangers in the simplist of situations. Not to spoil what happens in the beginning , but it continues when he does make it to Washington DC to see his mother. Once again, and I will probably say this in many reviews of this series. This is a character driven series, and it is in...

Just Like A Movie 2

This book reads like the first fifteen minutes of a movie watches. It's mostly set up, one or two pages are spent on each female character we are going to meet somewhere down the road, all interstwined with a conversation between Yorrick ( the soon to be "Last Man" and his girl friend Beth, who at the point of this story is in the Australian out back. Ultimately this is a book that belongs to it's writer. Given the short time he spends with each character, he manages to bring to life intiguing a...

She Hulk Vs. Iron Man 0

So, She Hulk has been working for Shield looking for the "Hulk". This issue she finds out,, that she has been targeting Hulk level threats so Tony Stark could experiment on them and try to nuetralize there powers. She Hulk gets mad, and a battle RAGES!!!! Well, commences. At least it's drawn for a couple of issues. Really , considering what's promised on the cover, with the ground crushing beneath the weight of both heroes. Also taking into account how Mad She Hulk was meant to be, it was a pre...

A Solid Beginning 0

There are two different stories in this book. The first, is the story that sets up the rivalry between Spiderman, and newspaper publisher J. Jonah Jameson. Here Spiderman saves his astronaught son John as his spaceship is going to crash. JJJ feels this takes publicity away from his son, "the real hero" and goes on a crusade to stop Spiderman. The second story is Spiderman Vs. The Chameleon. Realizing Spiderman must be desperate for cash, the Chameleon, poses as Spiderman for some robberies. B...
