  • The adoptive father of Superman, he and his wife are farmers in the small rural town of Smallville, Kansas.

  • Alura In-Zee was the mother of Supergirl and wife of Zor-El. She was a brilliant scientist like her brother-in-law and sister-in-law.

  • The father of Supergirl, he was a scientist and an artist.

  • Supergirl was a resident of the doomed planet Krypton, who at the time of its explosion was 15 and was often left in charge of her infant cousin Kal-El. She was sent in a separate spacecraft to Earth to look after her cousin while he reached maturity. Due to an error in the trajectory of the spacecraft it became lodged in a piece of the destroyed planet and she arrived many years later. Because she was in cryostasis until the meteor broke apart in Earth's atmosphere and her ship landed in Gotham bay, she was still 15 while Kal-El had already grown to adulthood, reversing the intended role of child and guardian.

She becomes close friends with Tim Drake, Cassie Sandsmark, Stephanie Brown, and Owen Mercer.

  • On Krypton, Thara Ak-Var was the best friend of Kara Zor-El. Unfortunately, these two friends would come to be separated when Brainiac invaded the planet. His androids attacked the city of Kandor, Thara's home. Her parents, Ak-Var and Tes Ak-Var, were members of the elite military unit Black Zero. Black Zero responded to the Brainiac attack, and young Thara could only watch as both her parents were slaughtered. She was then made one of the 100,000 Kryptonians kept alive in the shrunken city of Kandor and was adopted by Zor and Alura.

Since her parents death, Thara had been plagued by fiery nightmares. The dreams took on some religious significance for her, and she was always a devout person despite her lapse of faith since Brainiac's attack. Eventually, she took Zor's advice to seek answers or solace at the church. She found members of the mysterious Religious Guild waiting for her there, and she experienced a vision of the mythic Flamebird coming to her. After this, the Religious Guild claimed her as one of their own, and she went without resistance. She was anointed into the guild, feeling lost in the belief that she and The Flamebird were connected or perhaps one. As the Religious Guild believed, she would become the living avatar of The Flamebird.

While with the Religious Guild, Thara was struck by a connection to the mind of Christopher Kent in the Phantom Zone. The boy was accessing some hazardous Brainiac technology, which had the effect of allowing his mind to reach out and touch Thara's. For a brief moment, they were connected. Then the connection was lost, and all Thara could believe was that there was a boy trapped in the Phantom Zone who needed her. Knowing she had to do something, she left the Religious Guild and returned to Zor and Alura. No one believed her story. The idea that she heard it in her mind that some boy was trapped in the Phantom Zone was too fanciful for anyone who would listen to her. Though Zor didn't believe that was possible, he did think it would be possible to save someone in the Phantom Zone using a projector and protective suit of armor. She agreed to return to her former job as Chief of Security.

Thara and Chris took on the secret identities of The Flamebird and The Nightwing. Together, they fought to keep Zod loyalists from freeing him from the Phantom Zone while also trying to track down sleepers on Earth. After Kandor was relocated from Earth to New Krypton, she could no longer keep General Zod from being freed so she left to focus entirely on his sleepers on Earth.

  • Using DNA stolen from Superman and Lex Luthor, Project Cadmus created Superboy to replace Superman following his death and be a living weapon. He was artificially aged to mid-teens and implanted with the necessary knowledge of someone of his biological age (in regards to general studies, such as math, reading, etc). Before the experiment could be completed (i.e. aging him to full adulthood and implanting him with safeguards to control him) he was freed by the Newsboy Legion and escaped.

He becomes close friends with Tim Drake and Bart Allen, and the three found Young, Just Us - which becomes known as Young Justice due to mispronunciations. They are later joined by Secret, Arrowette, Wonder Girl, Empress, and Lil' Lobo who is later replaced by Slobo.

  • Kara Zor-L was the Earth-Two version of Supergirl

  • The first appearance of Krypto is as Superboy's pet in the early Silver Age. He was sent into space as a means of testing Jor-El's interstellar spacecraft before risking the life of his son, reflecting the similar use of animals to test rockets during the then-current Space Race. After Superboy grew up and moved to Metropolis, Krypto was described as having gone off planet to "romp in space". Krypto served as a member of both the Legion of Super-Pets and the Space Canine Patrol Agents.

The first Post-Crisis Krypto was seen in the Time Trapper's pocket universe, as the former pet of that world's Superboy.

Another Krypto was an ordinary Earth puppy adopted by Superman supporting character Bibbo Bibbowski, who had wanted to name the pup after Superman's home planet, but the engraver who made his dog tag was a "chis'ler" who tried to charge Bibbo extra for more than six letters.

When Superman and Lois Lane traveled to a false planet Krypton on its final days, they found that the house they stayed at had another visitor. When they traveled back to Earth, Krypto followed. When exposed to the sun's rays, he showed the same powers as the Man of Steel himself. At Superman's wishes he stays at the Fortress of Solitude as a guard. As a result, Krypto was for some time locked away. He made sporadic appearances over several years. He is used by Batman to sniff out the whereabouts of Poison Ivy during Hush. He is part of a rescue team, comprised of Nightwing, Superboy, Robin, Natasha Irons and Cir-El, that raids the White House to save Superman and Batman from President Luthor. He attacks the new Supergirl in the Fortress of Solitude. Superman puts Krypto in Superboy's care and they settle down in Smallville. He came to Conner's aid when Superboy-Prime came to kill him, however, an injured Krypto was left behind in the heat of the battle, a battle that ends in Superboy's death. Krypto disappears soon after and when he makes his return, Superman allows Jimmy Olsen to keep him for a short time. During the Sinestro Corps War Krypto and Superboy-Prime have a brief rematch. He also comes to Superman's aid against Atlas, helping to defeat the magical threat. During the events of New Krypton, it is established that Krypto now lives on the Kent farm with Martha Kent after Jonathan Kent dies. With Superboy's return, Krypto and Conner are once again reunited.

In the Flashpoint universe, Krypto was known only as "Subject 2" and had died long before Barry Allen, Thomas Wayne and Cyborg stumbled upon the room that housed his skeleton.

Krypto's origin was altered in the new 52. An experiment by Jor-el to create a companion for his son Krypto was implanted with some of the young Kal-el's DNA in order to create a companion with an unbreakable bond. In Krypton's final moments, Jor-El tries to save his family by opening a portal to the Phantom Zone nearly allowing the escape of its incarcerated prisoners. Krypto, aware of the danger they represent, leaps into action to defend his family and is subsequently trapped in the Phantom Zone. The young Kal-El is left in anguish at the loss of his dog. Later a homeless person tells Clark Kent that he is being watched by a ghost in the form of a white dog later revealed to be Krypto's projection from the Phantom Zone. After the escape of the Phantom King from the phantom Zone Kal-El was able to pull Krypto from the Phantom Zone. However, Krypto was severely injured. Worried, Kal-El carried Krypto into space, and threw him near the Sun, healing Krypto of his injuries.

In the Smallville TV series, a Red Setter is given super powers from an experiment with Kryptonite. Clark toys with naming the dog Krypto, but ultimately names the dog Shelby.

  • Originally Streaky was Supergirl's ordinary house cat. One day Supergirl was trying to find an antidote to green kryptonite by altering its structure. When she thought her experiment had failed, she threw it out the window. Like most cats, Streaky was inquisitive and found the piece of what would be later known as X-kryptonite. The radiation turned him into a Supercat, giving him flight, super strength, speed, and sight. With his powers he would later become a member of the " Legion of Super-Pets," a heroic group of super animals that included a dog ( Krypto), horse ( Comet), and monkey ( Beppo) with superpowers. Streaky and the other super-pets faded away when comics tried to become less ridiculous, and so he was eventually retconned in Crisis on Infinite Earths. In the years after, Supergirl took in another stray house cat that she called Streaky in honour of her lost pet. This Streaky never gained powers.

When Supergirl was re-introduced in 2005, Streaky was re-introduced as a normal stray housecat. This time Streaky is a female and she gets her name from being unable or unwilling to use a litter box. This cat has quite an attitude and Kara had to tame her over time.

  • Wally Tortollini is rummaging through the Justice League America's trash looking for dirt for his tell all book, when he hears a "RRRRRR...KAKK", coming from a trash can. Thinking it might be a super villain he runs away. The sound brings Guy Gardner to the back door, but not seeing anything her heads back inside, never realizing Stinky has sneaked in behind him.

Stinky then sneaks upstairs where he startles Fire, who ignites herself and sets off the sprinklers in the Embassy. This brings Guy upstairs to her rescue, but Guy is no match for Stinky who quickly latches to Guy's face. After a tussle Guy is able to wrap Stinky up in a blanket and kicks him into a teleporter.

Stinky comes out in France in the Justice League Europe Embassy. There he causes problems for the JLE by pushing the button on the training room to MAX and nearly getting Crimson Fox and Wally West killed. He then takes a nap on the Red Alert button, which brings J'onn, Mr. Miracle, Fire and Guy Gardner to Europe thinking there is a problem.

After almost killing Wally, by sleeping on his face while he was napping and nearly suffocating him, Wally tries to trow him out a window but instead he throws him into and unsuspecting Guy's face, to which Stinky attaches himself again. He then takes off running. While everyone is trying to figure out what is happening Stinky attacks Jean-Jean De Jean, a would be art thief who was hiding in the Embassy, stopping him from getting away.

Days later Captain Atom is glad that Stinky is gone but he is informed that Power Girl has adopted him and is trying to come up with a name. She tries Heathcliff, Kevin, Sylvester, Frodo even Guy but the cat "Burps" them all.

  • Zal-Tel was Zor-El's mentor in the Artists Guild. When Supergirl was trying to decide what guild to join, Zal says that if she chose to become an Artist like her father he would be more than glad and proud to teach her as well. He also sculpted Zor-El's memorial after his death.
