After Sunfire's very troubling times including his transformation into the Horseman of Famine by Apocalypse, he finally escaped that life along with his fellow "X-Man" Gambit. They stuck together and found refuge in the form of someone they did not expect, Mister Sinister. He found the two, and knew that they needed something so he offered them the position of becoming his servants. And so the two, seeing as themselves having no other choice joined the Marauders where they proved themselves during Messiah Complex. However now that Sinister is dead, the true influence of Sinister on Sunfire is unknown.
