He sees humanity as a cancer poisoning the Earth, and seeks to eliminate most of them in order to stave off environmental disaster. He has clashed frequently with Batman, whom he hoped to make his successor.

Joe Chill was a small-time criminal who on one fateful night encountered Thomas and Martha Wayne as well as their son Bruce. Chill robbed the Waynes and then shot Thomas and Martha, leaving Bruce orphaned, inciting his journey into becoming the vigilante Batman.

Eccentric Member of Gotham High Society who directed the film Black Glove and had numerous wives, such as Marsha Lamarr. Attempting to elude boredom, brought together the Club of Heroes but later joined the mysterious Black Glove and conspired for the group's demise. As per this, he assumed the identity of El Sombrero and perished on the island he lured the club to.
As the first Robin, Dick Grayson was the most famous sidekick in comic book history. As he ventured forth on his own, he formed the Teen Titans and became their leader. When the boy became a man, he became the independent hero known as Nightwing.

Knight is a British vigilante and member of the international crime-fighting group, "Batman, Incorporated". He is usually referred to as the Batman of England.
Alfred Pennyworth is Bruce Wayne's loyal father figure and butler. Alfred raised Bruce (and later Dick Grayson) after the death of the Waynes. A former British secret agent, Alfred is a skilled surgeon who often treats members of the Bat-Family.
Barbara Gordon was the first modern age Batgirl until she was brutally shot by the Joker, rendering her paralyzed from the waist down. Barbara reinvented herself as Oracle, providing intelligence to the DCU heroes and leading the Birds of Prey. She has recently become Batgirl once again to protect Gotham City.
Talia the daughter of Ra's al Ghul and the heir to his worldwide criminal empire. Talia has been both lover and mortal enemy to Batman, and is the mother of Damian Wayne otherwise known as Robin.
James Gordon is one of Batman's first supporters, helping him fight against crime and corruption in Gotham City. He eventually rose to the rank of Commissioner in the Gotham City Police Department, and continues to be one of Batman's greatest allies.
Martha Wayne is the wife of the late Dr. Thomas Wayne and the mother of Bruce Wayne.
A philanthropist and gifted surgeon, Thomas Wayne is the late father of Bruce Wayne and CEO of Wayne Industries. In other universes, Thomas himself has become Batman.
