    Just a quick question...

Well I didn't really get into reading Thor until a few years ago and whenever I'm curious about what damage he can withstand, every panel that shows him taking a hit is usually just an explosion and he walks away from it... The one thing I've never seen - maybe I might not remember, but I'm pretty sure I've never seen Thor take a bullet on any part of his skin. It's something that's been bugging me and has made me curious as to whether he could survive a gunshot to the head from a simple execution. I'm also curious if the movie-Thor can take a bullet as well. In The Avengers he ducked when shots were fired at the Hulk...

    So can someone elaborate?

The reason you don't see Thor taking bullets, and rather explosions, is because it's not really exciting for a character as powerful as Thor. You could put a 50 cal in Thors mouth and empty the clip and it'd only tickle him.

And bullets wouldn't hurt movie Thor either. He wasn't shot with any, but they were pretty much bouncing off of Loki.. so one can only assume it'd be the same for Thor.

Well like all fictional characters a thing here is consistency. Like believe it or not some (like two I think) Marvel writers has said in the past that they think Thor is vulnerable to bullets because he is magic and how they can pierce things. One writer I can't remember also said because Thor use to use his hammer to deflect bullets that Thor is fearful of being damaged by them... right. Oh and in one bad Black Panther story Thor cameoed in he was shot in the head and knocked out.

That also being said there have many more times when Thor has been shot without any damage at all, normal guns, jet plane guns, so on, as well as other types of damage like explosions, space, deep sea, the middle of the sun, so on. Different writers have different opinions, I'd figure its better creatively for the character and Marvel in general that the character not be harmed by bullets. The only writers that have seemed to think otherwise have never seemed to like the character.

Oh uhm in the JMS run Thor was shot by automatic weapons in the issue he was in Africa, so I think issue 4 or 5? Also Thor 480 is a good issue he is fired at.

That was a fantastic Black Panther story! But yeah, Thor getting knocked out even momentarily by a bullet seems a little silly. Chalk it up to Wakandan technology and a lucky shot I guess....even then, it's kinda ridiculous.

@veshark: I keep imagining Bullseye picking up a bullet and throwing it and killing Thor with it - just yeah - seems wrong inherently. Heh heh. I think its Thor's version of the snake that knocked out Hulk and that brick wall that fell on Silver Surfer one time knocking him out too. Some writers have.. interesting ideas ^_^

Yeah haha, which is odd, because Priest is usually a pretty solid writer. I think that moment was played more for laughs really, because Thor ended up falling on Everett Ross.

BTW the scan of Thor falling over from a bullet to the head was from Christopher priest's Black Panther, that was a massive use of WIS I have ever seen.

I don't get this at all. Even the Wonder Woman thing about not being bulletproof. These superhumans can take hits from super strong punches, energy blasts that can level sky scrapers, yet people think a bullet should hurt them.

His skin is waaayyyyy to dense to be damaged by any sort of bullet made by humans it's like shooting someone with a nerf gun or bb gun. If he gets hurt by any sort of human bullet (maybe an exception for a bullet made of vibranium/adamantium) it would be huge PIS. Put it this way he weighs at least 640lb which is due to the muscle mass and skin density of being Asgardian and a rather large one at that the bullet is never going to penetrate the skin of any Asgardian. Also he is a God a god being hurt by a human gun would be ridiculous, and if he can survive huge explosions, walking through lava and fighting someone on the sun it would be pretty stupid for a gun to be a problem for him. God of Thunder vs a gun no way the gun is doing any damage.

Thor has been punched through Earth and broke the Moon with his body when he fought Galactus once.

He also lost his arm to Malekith, who used an axe.

Very inconsistent. Either incarnation would be completely unaffected by any weaponry humans can make AFAIK. Like someone else said, you could empty a .50 Cal into his mouth and it would probably be a slight nuisance.

@whoisthebest: Another way to look at it involves Thor's durability. He has been stabbed through completely and still fought like nothing happened. Even if you could pierce his skin with a bullet it wouldn't actually hurt him.

Honestly I'm not really sure but I think he can since in a recent (besides the scan I uploaded above) we tanked rifles without twitching. But I don't think he would tank a bullet like the trademark of Superman where bullets literally bounce off everywhere. Like in this scan below, I'm not sure what blast was used here but it made him bleed:

    No Caption Provided

Notice in the above scan Quicksand states "That ray tore a chunk out of Thor's arm" but we see nothing (just Thor down obviously shaken by the blast) but in the next scan we see this:

Writers who lack ideas for giving powerful characters vulnerabilities resort to tired tropes of resistance to bullets. Thor literally walked into the sun, but would be vulnerable to bullets? Besides, the force of a punch from Hulk, Sentry, and Silver Surfer (to name a few high-level power characters) would generate much more force than a bullet.

Ummm I'm not sure if you're trolling or joking, but Thor wasn't hurt by Quicksand at all. He was shot by a lazer beam from the organization Mongoose was working for. He was also suffering from headaches due to a portion of Loki's essence being inside his body which were weakening him. It was mentioned many times throughout this run as well. And in the 2nd scan thats Executioner (or a replacement made by Enchantress) and Thor was able to fight him off before Enchantress turned him back into a normal person.
