Uncanny Avengers #7 - The Hills Are Alive...With the Sound of Gunfire

4

The Avengers discover Pleasant Hill.

While trying to stop The Wrecker, who is on the run, the Avengers discover information on Pleasant Hill and what's going on there.

If there's one thing you can say about Uncanny Avengers, it's that it's a really fun team book. Writer Gerry Duggan crafts a really entertaining issue from start to finish, with a bit of character building along the way. The most memorable moments of the issue come from the battle between the Avengers and the Wrecker on the highway. The action is big and completely fitting for this team. It also gives the team a connection to the main Standoff storyline, without feeling like the team is being forced into it. They come across someone who has escaped Pleasant Hill, team up with Maria

The action is big and completely fitting for this team. It also gives the team a connection to the main Standoff storyline, without feeling like the team is being forced into it. They come across someone who has escaped Pleasant Hill, team up with Maria Hill, and go from there. Many times, these tie-ins feel really forced, but here, it makes sense and has a nice flow to it.

We're also getting a bit more from Synapse, as Cable is trying to teach her to use and understand her powers. In addition, there's also a couple opening scenes featuring Quicksilver and Doctor Voodoo, which gets readers a bit more into the character's headspace, which can be a bit tough to do in a team book, since the focus is so spread out.

Ryan Stegman does a fantastic job on the issue. The tone of the writing is a bit more humorous at times, and Stegman's style really fits that mold. He does some amazing work with drawing the Wrecker too. He hasn't looked this good in years.

The book does move a bit too quickly though. It feels like a race to the end as soon as the Doctor Voodoo pages are over. It's not paced poorly at all, but it doesn't feel like the reader really gets to savor what's going on here sometimes.

Uncanny Avengers #7 is a blast. I'm really starting to love this team. It's a weird mix of characters that feel like they shouldn't work well together, but they do. It's a gorgeous looking issue and features the Wrecker, which is always a plus for me. The connection between the current Marvel event works, and the issue leaves off at a pretty interesting place. The only real problem with the issue is that it moves too quickly. I recommend checking this issue out.
