Tough question to answer. The DCEU is a direct response to the MCU, so it's hard to imagine even what it would look like if it came first. Also, many people criticize DC for not doing things like MCU...

Shazam failed because of superhero fatigue and being this close to Endgame. I know many chose to get pre sale tickets for Avengers instead of see Shazam. Plus, people just saw Captain Marvel. Too many...
