Would you take makeup advice from a comic book character?

In my extensive enough exposure to the world of comic books I have noticed something about makeup.  Generally superheroines don’t really wear any, except for a liberal use of mascara and eyeliner.   If they do wear some for an event or something in real life, they usually wear one uniform colour as eyeshadow which just looks like someone wiped a single brush across their face and didn't think of any blending.  There are also some which might wear lipstick, but the way comics are coloured it can be hard to tell.

So when I saw that MAC was coming out with a Wonder Woman line of cosmetics I was a little confused.   MAC for me has two associations.   First of all there makeup artists are capable of some absolutely amazing looks.   Secondly though, their makeup implies being worn in a way which is over the top (past spokespeople have included Lady Gaga, Cyndi Lauper, Christina Aguilera and Boy George – none of them known for their restraint when it comes to makeup.)    In my mind Wonder Woman is the perfect beauty and therefore doesn’t have to wear anything, so the two combined together is an odd pairing.  I don’t therefore agree in this sense with the association

What I sort of do agree with is that Wonder Woman is usually written as a positive role model for girls and women and this might increase exposure.  It is kind of a strange concept though, that in a place where makeup is taught to be key, that the extreme example of no need for makeup is being used.

After all, if you asked Wonder Woman for makeup advice, I think she would just say not to use any.
