For years, the Vertigo comic Y: THE LAST MAN has gone through the ringer trying to find its way to the big and small screen. It looks like all of that has changed. According to THR, FX is currently developing the comic series for television.

The series is in development and Brian K Vaughan, the writer of the 60-issue Vertigo series, will be developing the script for television with another writer. FX is currently searching for a second writer. No director has been revealed yet either.

The story of Y: THE LAST MAN follows Yorick Brown and his monkey Ampersand, the last two males on the planet, after a virus wipes out anything with a Y chromosome. Brown and his monkey head out on an adventure in this new world, to try and find Brown's fiancee, but the world throws curveball after curveball at him.

The series ran for 60 issues and was created by Brian K Vaughan and Pia Guerra. It is considered one of the top series for its time. Currently, FX also offers The Strain, which is a comic from Dark Horse, as well as a book series. However, this is the first Vertigo series to possibly head to the channel. We'll keep you updated as more develops.

I still need to read the comic (finally started to read Saga and liking it). This would make a really interesting idea for a show.

I remember when the lead actor of the show Chuck was campaigning hard to have this series adapted to either a movie or TV series. It would be cool if he got the role. Seems like a good fit for Yorick, but maybe too old now.

@the_impersonator: It's that a comedy and there's more than one man left?

It's a comedy and there's more than one man left. The title does sound a bit off though.

I read issues 1-12 of this and loved it. Need to read the rest. But it definitely works for TV.

I loved this book. Can't wait to see a tv version!

I could see Zachary Levi as Yorrick.

Good network for it, just get the right people behind it and keep Shia Labeouf all the way away from it and it can work...also Tracy Thoms MUST be 355!

*insert me pretending to have read the comic book series before here* Yes, finally! TBH anything is better than that disgusting mess they call American Horror Story: Hotel. What a disappointment to such a good series. Yes, I'm talking to you FX.

Please explain how this would ruin the comic, I'd love to hear it. Even if it's the worst television show of all time, it's never going to ruin the comic.

Great news and really excited that BKV will be hands on with it. The only thing they really have to work around would be the nudity and sex scenes in the series since its gonna be on basic cable.

As a walking dead comic reader and lover I hated the show, it was slow, had too much filler.I know and understand the need for it but nonetheless it ruined the experience for me.

I hope that this show does justice

@cyanidepie: it ruins comics by further stimulating the idea that comic books are some bastard medium between movie and books. Not every comic needs to be turned into a movie/show. If you enjoy the story, read it. Are we really so lazy that we need to watch watered down versions of great mediums?

@dman1366: that's because nothing is Sacred in comics anymore and they will turn anything profitable into a movie or tv show.

I'm amazed at the bits of whining here. The turd movies of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Stallone Judge Dredd, and the misguided Watchmen didn't harm those series. I would much rather see a good adaptation attempt of something well written like Y:tLM versus another iteration of one of the procedural franchises or a creepy reality show.

First fans whine because no one takes the comic genre seriously and ignores these amazing stories, then we get people whining to leave us alone.

It makes me very happy to see Brian K Vaughan doing the show. Makes for a hopeful adaptation of the great comic book series. It won't be like Lucifer where Neil Gaiman nor Mike Carey were thrilled about a show that looks nothing like there creation.

@dman1366:

No, we DON'T need to watch a watered down version of the story. See what you did there? You just used the same brain to both present and solve the same problem. Progress.

There are a million gotdamm channels that AREN'T going to be showing Y: The Last Man, and you are absolutely capable and free to choose any one of them during the hour this show will be on. OR you could also read a couple issues of the comic every time the TV show is on, that way it could never destroy your precious gospel written by the hand of God.

Tuh-duh. Magic.

@dredd_78: @cyanidepie: I never claimed it as gospel. I just feel that perpetuating that comics are just a lesser form of media compared to television is wrong, and that it hurts the industry.

I also would never say "leave us alone" to anyone wanting to enjoy comic books. The more the merrier.

@dman1366:

Literally NOBODY is saying that comics are a lesser form of media than television, where in the world are you getting that from?? Why are you projecting your weird insecurities over reading comics onto people who would watch this show? It's totally cool that you read comics dude, nobody here will judge you.

This story, along with every other comic in existence has every right to exist as a TV show or movie as it does a comic. Just because you're a weird nerdhoarder doesn't mean that other people shouldn't be able to enjoy it across a different medium.

I am so tired of comic fans hating the shit out of everything. None of us growing up would have ever thought that we would be living in a world where all of our favorite characters and stories would finally be the "cool" thing that EVERYONE got excited about and wanted to see, and so many people have met that recognition with this awkward "WHY ARE YOU HERE??" Stance.

For the love of all that is right in the world, STFU and let people enjoy shit. For once.
