The first of the two stories featured in this edition is the new Sunday adventure Revenge in Rhodia with story by Tony DePaul and art by Terry Beatty. The solid brass bell from the India Voyager II is found on the beach. Captained by Savarna, mystery surrounded the disappearance of The Voyager II. Was Savarna attacked in these waters because she helped The Phantom rescue Diana from Gravelines prison? The second story has a number of surprises and many contradictions!
Just the right mix to start some really serious controversy!
Claes Reimerthi’s script for The Great Deception commences with the unthinkable—the first Phantom deciding to hang up his uniform and leave the Deep Woods to start a new life alongside his wife, who has to return to her country of origin and resume her royal duties. The background to the story is historically accurate, but the purists will quickly spot that writer Claes Reimerthi has added a little to Lee Falk’s official Phantom history! According to Claes, it was the first Phantom and his son Chris, who decided to expand the original oath the first Phantom swore on the skull of his father’s murderer.
