This issue, (Frew No 1672) is the 1700th edition of The Phantom Comic Book published in Australia by Frew Publications— some 65 years! The Wreck in Timpenni Sound was first published by Semic/Egmont in 1985 but we did not publish this story (Frew No 903) until 1988. The story is written by Michael Tierres and illustrated by Heiner Bade.

This is an uncomplicated straight forward adventure written in the style of many stories in that era. Today the emphasis is more often on historical themes, action packed adventures and, occasionally, semi political/social issues of today’s world.

The Wreck in Timpenni Sound features the Mori people, treasure seekers, gangsters and, yes, The Phantom is called upon to fight evil and restore peace.

The writer. is credited as Michael Tierres. This is the pen name for Claes Reimerthi.

This story originally appeared in Fantomen 8/1985.
