The Good

I can honestly say, that I rated this first issue of Deadpool "5 stars" with great satisfaction and amenity, as I think Wade Wilson is in fact the next superstar of the Marvel Universe. At first, I was unpredictable going into the title of this new Marvel NOW! relaunch, especially when there's a whole new crew behind Deadpool, although having seen the works of Brain Posehn I took the chance of catching up with the character. I think Posehn and Gerry Duggan did an exceptional job emphasizing on Deadpool's main attributes which are his combat skills, regenerative healing, and his on-going class of humor; as well as making it eventful within this first issue. The writers also explains more of what Wade thinks his purpose of serving his country is, with greater reason after his encounters of being a test subject for a top secret government program called "Weapon X".

In perspective of the eyes, I believe Tony Moore and colorist, Val Staples did an extraordinary job of producing all-time classic artwork. From the beginning of the issue when Deadpool comes slashing out of "Godzilla" to the two-spread page of George Washington and the rest of the undead presidents in a counseling room deciding on the verdict of existence in America. It's overall a great work of art from beginning to finish and I think Axel Alonso did an outstanding job recruiting the right guys for the title.

The Bad

If I had to point out a flaw within this first issue, I think it would probably be the cover. Not to be harsh or anything, but having Deadpool to shoot off Godzilla who's apparently trying to have cats and dogs for lunch is not genuine heroism and does not paraphrase the character all to much for newcomers of the title. I'm pretty sure Deadpool killed them before the giant lizard even had a chance to anyway, but having the action of the cover take place within the city would've been more compelling.

The Verdict

I think this issue is one that deserves to be picked up and read. It's a classic story of modern day superhero crime fighting action with lots of humor and flavor in the mix, also being nicknamed the "Merc with the Mouth". Wade Wilson is one of the few that has ever broken "The Fourth Wall" as he did again in the epilogue of this issue when he explains the new characters working behind the book, helping him write his story; which is an absolute classic. This title's definitely one to place in your pull-list of comic readings and follow along to.
