Project 500: Final Crisis
To all things an ending, the first and greatest Crisis ends here. DC's most epic crossover event and Silkcut's
Project 500
draw to a close...
The Story: The story begins with a group of disparate heroes stranded in space seeking the help of Brainiac, Who has no recollection of last issues multiple-reality altering events. Once the heroes convince Brainiac he takes them off to see Darkseid....Meanwhile the New Earth from last issue floats in the Anti-matter universe coated in a black shell which in short time is revealed to be a fearsome army of Anti-Monitor's Shadow Demons who in short order launch a final Attack!!
Citizens die right and left as the heroes try in vain to stand against the endless hordes..
Elsewhere, the best and brightest of DC's Magic user's gather to try and find a way to stop the Shadow Demon attacks. At the same time Harbinger gathers an elite team of DC heroes to head to the ruins of Qward and physically confront and kill the Anti-Monitor..
This large group which includes Dr.Light, Captain Atom, Kal-L(current Superman), Kal-El (Earth-2/Golden Age Superman/The First Superhero), and Superboy Prime as well as others manages to drain off and weaken the Anti-Monitor using a clever plan, However as they are about to leave for the new earth dimension, Anti-Monitor rises again!
Kal-El decides to stay behind alone and attempt to finish off the Ant-monitor once and for all, Superboy Prime also decides to see the battle through to the End..
In the battle that follows Kal-El more or less defeats Ant-Monitor Again, with help from Superboy Prime and Darkseid?
Despite what is seen above, Ant-Monitor rises one final time, but is at last destroyed for good by Kal-El. Alexander Luthor takes Prime, Kal-El, and Lois Lane of Earth-2 to a paradise pocket dimension....
The Good:
Enough cannot be said about the epicness and sheer scale of Crisis. This series along with Secret Wars I defined 80's comics for me. This series rewards you over and over again every time you read it, whether you are just starting out with DC or are a seasoned reader this series cannot be missed.
The Bad:
This series would have benefited from having a larger run maybe 24-issues? Too much story too little space. Otherwise every bit the Masterpiece.
The Verdict: 5/5:
An Epic Ending to an Epic series Crisis had a 50 year build up, with a two year storyline set-up and a flawless execution by a gifted creative team in Wolfman and Perez. They don't make Events like they used to kids! A Million thanks to Silkcuts for allowing me a chance to participate in this one-of-a-kind relay review.
