Gotham Discussion Thread
I just realized something about Gotham. This show actually displays flashes of brilliance when characters show up and complete an arc and then move on.
Jerome/Joker
Mad Hatter
Theo Galavan
Falcone
Ogre
They all had solid arcs and Pyg looks to be similar. The problem with this show are literally its lead characters or recurring characters.
Freeze and Firefly had decent arcs, they should not have been used after said arcs.
Ivy,Zsasz,Lee,Butch and Barbara are completely useless and waste of space and screen time. They should have died 2 seasons ago.
Penguin and Selina are Tumblr parasites. The reason for their existence is to pander to Tumblr. Penguin is an effeminate pretty boy who wants to be loved cue in "feels" for fangirls. He's Gotham's Felicity, he hasn't had a fresh story in ages, all they do now is bring an infinitely more interesting character to bully him and then get their due at his hands. Selina is in the same boat as Lee and Barbara, a character with no story worth telling who exists to pander to the Bat/Cat crowd and do nothing else.
At this point Gotham cant even afford to cull these useless characters either because its ratings are low. This show had the ingredients for greatness, it chose to settle with mediocrity.
@entropy_aegis: I gave in and watched a few episodes of season 4 just to see how they'd do Ra's al Ghul.
He's not too bad, much better than Arrow's version, but by God, Barbara needs to die already. And so does Tabitha. She's pretty much a character with no purpose now that her brother's dead for good (speaking of which, what happened to Silver, now that her uncle is dead and her aunt has gone MIA? They just completely forgot about her), though it seems like they're setting her up to die this season anyway with Selina taking over. It's nice that Fish Mooney's finally f***ing dead, though. Her hammy overacting was unbearable.
Penguin's character was dead the moment they decided to introduce his mommy issues, it was just downhill since. And don't get me started on Leslie. It's an absolute disgrace what they did to her character.
The only good thing I can see coming out of Gotham is that it's opened up the door to the possibility of a proper live-action Batman show in the future.
@orangebat: Most of the shows main characters definitely need to die and they forgot about Thomas Wayne Jr or Bruce 2 or whatever he was called as well haha.
Overall this show needs to ditch the fodder and go for complete arcs. Tabitha, Butch, Leslie and Barbara in particular have NO reason to exist now. Selina needs something to chew on and I'm just bored of Penguin. God bring Two-Face to whack him or whatever.
Apparently, Maggie Geha is getting replaced by Peyton List as Poison Ivy.
It's honestly a miracle how Gotham has lasted this long with all of the moronic decisions the writers keep on making.
Honestly this season and last season of Gotham is among the best seasons of comic book shows believe it or not
@orangebat: LMAO.
Gotham
Since I'm such a huge fan of the show, I'll mention several of my favourite parts of it.
Favourite Character
Riddler. I've loved his character development and how it inevitably all ties back to his desire for affection and admiration. They could not have chosen a better actor for the role than Cory. Subtle changes in voice and mannerisms have made his character development much more believable.
Honourable Mentions: Gordon, Bullock Penguin and Jerome.
Favourite Season
Season 3 but it will most likely be season 4 once it wraps up.

Best and at same time my favorite things in gotham was in season 1 episode 17 "Red Hood" the end scene when kid ( Noah Tully Sanderson ) grab the hood from the street and mimic shooting with gun at police officers ! Wish to Noah back as Red Hood kill Jerome and his f***n brother Jeremiah and become The Joker !!!

Nah we need Jeremiah to become the Joker. That being said that was a good moment.

look sth... Red Hood become the Joker and thats it ! If i know whats Joker real name, then its not Joker for me ! He is wrapped in veil of mystery and he should stay like that. Jerome or Jeremiah whoever of they two, can just fall in the ACID in which Red Hood latter have to fall !!! Jerome or Jeremiah have to melt in that acid and become just the essence of that acid (of which Red Hood will become the Joker) !!! And honestly i think and believe that its best story to finish (with Jerome and his brother)season 4 !!!

I respectfully disagree. I think Jeremiah falling in the chemicals and becoming Joker with Jeremiah being presumed dead keeps the characters mystery as nobody in the verse knows who Joker is. Much as I love Jerome I can't see him as Joker merely the proto Joker without being called Joker but shares his characteristics because everyone knows it's Jerome and that takes away the mystique of Joker. I personally love the show because I view it as an elseworld story which shows the origins of the city because it changes so much that you have to look at it that way [Though it still provides great and unique versions of the characters in my opinion]
I totally dislike and don;t love show, watching it mostly to see where it goes, and how it going to finish before Batman arrive. And only way that i can like/love this show is if will Bruce never become the Batman in Gotham universe !!!

@arkhamwrath: Uh there are those of us who like the show and don't want it to end. Out of curiousity if you hate it do much why do you continue to watch it. There are better ways to spend those hours of your life.
Bcs i like to watch some of characters of that show... but with all season they just ruin and ruin them ! But some of them still wiggle through all others ( at least for me). And still waiting to see should/would they bring back some old characters !
I liked the season finale but the writers completely botched Ra's storyline by adding Barbara. They literally used one of Batman's best villains to prop up their own shitty original character (I know she is not really OC). They need to kill her off fast.

This. Should have mentioned it in my review. Season 5 is going to be the last season and it'll only be 13 episodes. Even as a Gotham fan I'm surprisingly fine with that. This is the best note this series could end on.

A few changes lol and damn am I hyped for season 5.
Really hope they use Hugo Strange more in S5. BD Wong's performance is one of the most faithful and best I've seen in CB live-action.
@subline: Sounds good, I'm hyped AF for this season.
First look at #Gotham’s Bane has been revealed.
This needs a bump for Season 5.

No. I've decided to wait until it comes out on Netflix then watch the whole show through.
The trailer looks good, but...
One of the best things about Batman is his villains.
Gotham told a terrible Batman story, all because it treated its villains like they were plot devices! Even the Joker could have had a compelling story arc. There's no rule that says Jerome and Jeremiah could not have been Bruce's childhood friends, along with Pam and Selina. Also, to be honest, I'm not a big fan of Cameron's proto-Joker. He would have been okay as the actual Joker, but it just didn't make sense how Gotham had all of Batman's villains already active in operation before Bruce Wayne ever became Batman. That would have been bad enough, but they also used Hugo Strange and Arkham Asylum as a plot device to kill or change characters on a whim.
It would have been nicer to have a slow build focusing on how crime in Gotham functioned and throwing in a feasible super villain whose likely already in operation (like Ra's, the Court of Owls, Talons, Clayface, Killer Croc, Mr. Freeze, etc.), not super villains that had no business showing up yet, like Joker or Poison Ivy (the super villains who should not have been in operation yet could have been given compelling story arcs to explain why they are the way they are), every once in a while to remind you of the universe. I'm perhaps tired of everyone trying to recreate "IT" with Batman villains! With few exceptions, all of his main villains are supposed to be severely tortured souls, not just mad homicidal maniacs, and the main appeal of Batman is he empathizes with his enemies and tries to find ways to help them.
Perhaps I would have been happier had the writers really done their research, read comics from every timeline, not just the new 52, and really crafted a story that paid homage to classic Batman lore. They could have done it with the same actors and settings. They just needed better written stories.
So I just watched Ep 11 and a lot of big stuff happened (Spoiler Alert):
- Gordon becomes Commissioner.
- Penguin loses his Eye and gets his Eye Frame.
- Bruce leaves Gotham to start his training.
Thoughts?
@subline: 5×10 almost derailed the whole season for me. Bane was treated terribly, and I didn't like the use of Nyssa. 5×11 righted the ship for the most part, though again, Bane looks like a chump. Also think Bruce should've at least told Selina goodbye in person. That move honestly felt contradictory to the character they built throughout the series. Just waiting on the finale now (which I skipped all trailers and promo material for...don't ruin it for me lol).
@indomitableregal: Yeah I agree with most stuff you said especially Bane's appearance, his costume was terrible.
Yeah I also gotta agree that Bruce should have said goodbye personally rather than writing a letter.

Don't worry I don't watch the show's promos anyway.
@subline: On a positive note though, I do think Gotham came a long way since season 1. If they could've reached S4/S5 quality sooner, the series would probably get more love. I also personally feel like David Mazouz has been the best live action Bruce Wayne to date (Bruce, not Batman).

Agreed, wasn't a huge fan of the earlier seasons.

Personally Christian Bale is my favorite Bruce Wayne but David Mazouz is up there too, a fun fact - Mazouz's Birthday is actually the same day as Batman's.

Fair enough. Bale is my favorite Batman, but I think Mazouz just showed so much growth as Bruce. It's hard for me not to give him the edge. Plus, you just confirmed he was born to play him lol.

Personally Affleck is my favorite Batman, assuming we're talking about LA only.
If we're talking generally, Kevin Conroy is my favorite Bruce & Batman.
