Just... Like... Me
The Good
Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man has been a really good series since the start. I really like it and I hope it is as long or even longer than the actual Ultimate Spider-Man title.
Anyway, this issue focuses on Betty Brant, who is an old friend of Peter (and they actually dated for a short time). While most journalists are writing about the Civil War that is going on in the Ultimate Comics universe, Betty has hopes on finding information about the new Spider-Man. She watches the video showing the death of The Prowler several times and realizes that the burglar and Miles have a ''connection''. Betty gets her hands on the spider that gave Miles his powers and manages to ''find out who Spidey is'' (she doesn't actually know, because she though he was Miles' dad, instead of the kid). In the end, she gets killed for having something that doesn't belongs to her..
I really liked the change to Jameson's personality after Peter's death. Betty actually tells him she knows who Spider-Man is. Now, the J.J.J we all know would jump at the possibility of ruining Spidey's life, but instead, he just tells the journalist that the Bugle won't publish the article, because there is actually no point in destroying someone's life for money.
The art is good. Not amazing, but Marquez did a good job. The plot is also very nice. Even though most people don't like Bendis, I gotta admit he has been doing a great job in this series.
What I liked the most about this issue was the ending (WARNING! IF YOU REVEAL WHAT I'M ABOUT TO WRITE, YOU'LL GET SOME ULTIMATE SPOILERS! You have been warned!).
The Bad
This comic is pretty much about Betty. I mean, we didn't even see Miles (just once, not counting the monitor).
I'd also complain about the fact that this issue was slow and most of it was kinda pointless, since Betty Brant gets killed in the end, but I won't say that, because this is the issue #16.1, so it's kinda like a prologue to the next arc.
Overall
4/5 stars. You should all buy this. I'd say this is a good starting point, as long as you know that Spider-Man is Miles and his uncle is the Prowler.
And if you do buy this issue, I'm sure the ending will surprise you, just like it surprised me :D.
