A new team of teenage superheroes.
Synopsis: Red Robin goes out to recruit teens to take down N.O.W.H.E.R.E.
What's Good?
One key point to note about this new DC universe is how people see superheroes. They seem to be a lot of mistrust with them, despite them trying to do what's right. A group that seem to have it the worst, are metahuman/non-powered teenagers. Keep those facts in mind, and this makes this new version of Teen Titans worth to invest some time in.
Tim Drake is still the ideal leader for a group of teenagers due to his training with Batman, so it's cool that his personality from the old DC is still intact in this universe. He still serious, yet he can joke around some. Kid Flash still has his personality as well, going back to his days in Young Justice. But I shouldn't say that considering that I'm exactly sure this Kid Flash is Bart Allen. And then there's Cassie Sandmark. Cassie is one of those characters who needed some background direction in the old DC universe along with a series (That tie-in with the Amazons doesn't count). I like that her characterization is someone who's reluctant to use her powers, and have trust issues. Her interaction with Red Robin seems natural, and it feels like it makes up for the dissolving friendship with Superboy and Tim. That's not to say that Superboy and Tim won't be friends later in this series, it just since Superboy's origin was changed, I don't necessarily consider him an ally yet. In some ways, the Superboy series is going to play a role with Teen Titans as well. It's not surprising since Scott Lobdell is the writer for that series as well.
Speaking of which, taking the place of villain organizations like H.I.V.E and The Brotherhood of Evil are N.O.W.H.E.R.E, who also have a role in Superboy's series as well. They appear to love teenage metahumans and are capturing them.
Another thing to note is the appearances of other teenage superheroes including the some familiar looking characters. Could they be making some appearances in this series in the future?
Despite some of costumes changes (Red Robin, I'm looking straight at you), I love the artwork by Brett Booth as everyone pretty much look the same. The issue is pretty detailed in plenty of areas. I actually like Cassie's new look, almost taking a likeness to Donna Troy's outfit.
What's Bad?
Background would have been nice to have. Superboy's new origins (or I think I know these characters), is a given, but how much of the other character's history has been changed along with the original Teen Titans Was there an original Teen Titans, or maybe a Young Justice?
Overall: I'm still a bit skeptical about this new Teen Titans, but the first issue did manage to convince me to continue to check it out. The questions I have about the original Teen Titans might be answered along the way.
