According to the Spectre, his will and sense of purpose is the strongest in creation.

Character » Superman appears in 18942 issues.
Good to see you're using the scan I showed you.
Naw. I knew about it before you showed me.
I think he shouldn't be. Considering how little struggle he puts into his fights since he is so OP. Make a better Blue or Purple Lantern.
Another example of writer's poor attempt to make Superman look like he is more than he actually is. The answer is no.
He'd be good but not the best

I think he'd be even more powerful if he were a Blue Lantern.
@squalleon: Very interesting. He gave the ring to Hal in SA didn't he?
Let have Hal/Kyle have that role.
@outside_85: actually I think there was a GL comic that stated he and Nightwing are potential Lanterns but he was disqualified because he's not native to Earth's space sector.

Well, if that was the case, he could have attracted a GL ring from the sector Krypton was in. That said, right now both are atleast 6th in line.
@mysticmedivh: And yet, in Action Comics 642, when Hal summons a group of potential replacements (one of them being Clark Kent), it's stated they have "lesser wills" than Hal does. *Winks*
So, who has the greater will is open to interpretation, who your more of a fan of, and who you choose to believe. ^_^
But to answer your question, no...Superman wouldn't be the greatest GL if he had a Green Power Ring. Sodam Yat (a Daxamite) had a ring and that still didn't stop Hal from being the Greatest Green Lantern. Would Superman be one of the greatest? Yes, but he wouldn't be THE greatest.
@knight101: Hal's title as the greatest has less to do with him being the most powerful (which he isn't) and more to do with his accomplishments, which are more impressive than those of pretty much everyone else. Even without a ring, one could easily argue that Superman's accomplishments exceed those of Hal.
Also, notice Nightwing is there but not Batman.
@wallywest042: I think his strong ties to fear could make that difficult. Batman would be a phenomenal member of the Sinestro Corps.
@raunjisto: Nah, his willpower exceeds his ability to instill fear.
@raunjisto: Yeah, Batman and Scarecrow with Yellow lantern.
@wallywest042: No it doesn't
@knight101: Hal will never be the greatest Lantern when Sinestro still lives
@samconery: Hulk would win. Hulk's rage > Superman's willpower.
On Topic:
The answer is still no. Clark's willpower is not on par with Hal Jordan's, Alan Scott's and Sinestro's, as much as his crazy fans can't accept that and try to prove otherwise based on nothing more but extreme hype and statement that has nothing to do with anything but writer's own bias and fan service.
@kgb725: Why would you say that? Batman instills fear, yes. But his willpower is insane. Probably on par with Hal.

Batman can't become a green lantern because of his fear. He has great willpower, yes, but his fear is too present. That's why he hasn't ever received a ring.
@laughingbatman: Didn't he obtain the ring for in Johns' GL run, but he put off in a fleeting moment. He saw his parents and couldnt handel it.
This is what I recall at least.

I would have to take a look. I wouldn't doubt something like that happened.
This. Superman would make a hella great Blue Lantern. However he'd make a pretty amazing Green Lantern too much like Sodom Yat with supplemented powers.
The main problem is I don't think it would add too much value though in that a lot of the things like flight, speed, physical strength, energy projection are all things he can do already but I feel the greatest value add would be resistance to red solar radiation and kryptonite. The lantern aura provides a biosphere that protects them for conditions in space so I can see it protecting him from radiation that he doesn't favour as well. Aside from that though the value add is much higher for any other being without such an intense and versatile power set.

Batman regularly overcomes his fears. That's what matter to be a GL.
Although I know it would never happen. Imagine Batgod becoming a Bat-Lantern God!

Or after the most recent JL issue-Bat-Lantern-Luthor God
@laughingbatman: Holy crap I forgot about that. Lets see him kick some timeless ass next issue.
@eto: Actually, Hal took off his ring and let Bruce put it on. Hal was trying to get Bruce to let go of the pain that the death of his parents has caused. But Batman refused to let go and gave the ring back, thanking Hal for what he tried to do. :-)
