Webcomic Reviews Lightbringer

Lightbringer is a webcomic by Lewis Lovhaug, A.K.A Linkara, a semi well known comic reviewer.

Lightbringer is the tale of Carter Granholme a pacifistic man with superpowers who lives in the violent Pharos City, who after witnessing one too many crimes gives up his pacifistic ways to fight crime as the hero Lightbringer.

Art

Art wise Lightbringer early on(and for what seems like the majority of the comic) is awful. The art is honestly some of the worst stuff I've seen, with generally bad everything. The attempts at a semi-realistic style simply don't go well the poor art. Close ups are the worst part, really showing off what looks to be something I could draw in MS Paint. Later on the comic does get some actual artist later on and it is quite the improvement but for many it will be too little too late.

Characters

Lightbringer is annoying. There is no getting around it. He's prone to either huge monologues both internal and external, said monologues are chunky crap that makes the character seem like kind of a pretentious arse most of the time, not helped by his attacks against pacifism of all things. He mellows out later but as with the art it may be too little too late. Secondary characters are a bit better, although there's only like one notable one with the rest being bland. The villains are just...crap. They are some of the most boring villain I've ever seen.

Story

The story is more like a older superhero comic with barely any overarching plot to be seen and mostly focusing on a villain by villain storyline. Due to the aforementioned boring nature of the villains the stories don't really hold up well. Even the best of ideas feel sort of bland and boring.

Recommendations

I can only recommend Lightbringer to those who can handle a lot of crap in order to get to the nice later bits of the webcomic, and among those, only the few that want to read an okay old school superhero comic.

If you don't have a high tolerance for crap or you're looking for something realtivly far from the mainstream of comics I'd suggest looking elsewhere.
