What’s the most Oscar bait film(s) in your opinion?
For me, it’s American Hustle.
@skywalker95: King's Speech.
Hilarious that it won best film over masterpieces such as Inception and The Social Network.
@michaelbn: lol how is Parasite baity?
@payneintheass: Obviously that was my opinion, and I found it very meh; nothing very spectacular like others claim it to be. It seemed to me like those movies specially made to grab the attention of that shitty award ceremony.
Taika Waititi won an Oscar for Jojo Rabbit meanwhile Nolan did not win any oscar while producing flawless screenplays such as Memento & Inception. It's mental how a good movie with a basic plot such as King's Speech won best screenplay over one of the most innovative and intelligent action movies of this decade.
@richard96: I agree. There's also Crash (2005).
Joker.
Basically any movie by Steven Spielberg these days.
Little Women, I know that lying bitch at The Mary Sue kept harping about it.
@sufferedtoker: i kinda liked jojo rabbit
Who cares... most films the Academy praises also happen to be the best. Maybe the term "Oscar bait" shouldn't be used all that negatively.
People just don't like the fact that the Academy doesn't favor sci-fi and thrillers, which is what most here seem to love from what I've seen. If you're a fan of dramas, biographical films and character driven storylines - all of which I frankly find of far higher quality than the things Nolan mostly puts out - then there's really not even a reason to dislike their picks.
Parasite was good but not Oscar worthy imo. Awards don't really matter to me anymore though if the movie's good, its good.
@rawsos: Yes but it's nowhere near Inception's level.
