What Comic Company doesn't suck?
" @Vance Astro said:i'll try it." I read Volume 1. "In that case, I could suggest reading from #80 and after. Once Ron took over, he essentially used all the previous history and used it to completely overhaul the Top Cow universe and from there, the quality just kept getting better especially once Stepjan Kejic joined as artist and they began the major arcs like first born and broken trinity. "
" @Vance Astro said:I love it. Plutonian is so awesome lol" @FadeToBlackBolt said:Oh, ok. Well, that's ok then lolThe thing that annoys me about BP becoming DD is why!? Why can't T'challa just be Black Panther? I didn't read Doomwar because the second I heard Deadpool was in it the series lost all deep meaning to me, despite my love for Doom. "He's not becoming DD..he's becoming the Man Without Fear. He's still Black Panther he's just watching over Hell's Kitchen. "

""i'll try it. "In my opinion either issues 80, 99 or 100 would be your best jumping points.
" if all fails, try reading some manga. "Agree, but don't buy them yet.. you can try reading some manga legit online and see if you like em before spending some cash.
Sucks though that your comic shop doesn't sell some Dynamite titles, I've been having a blast with the Red/Queen Sonja titles.
I think all companies have their good and bad.
" @Crom-Cruach said:The movie (the first anyway) draws heavily from the comics. Some of the characters from the film are far more fleshed out however. And Mignola is always pretty consistent with his writing, so if that's an issue, then at least you know you don't need to bother with the rest.In my honest opinion. The best series by Top Cow is by far Witchblade, but all of the current ones are really good. As for Dark Horse, it's not a question Hellboy, BPRD (thought this one series get's much better as it progresses) and Conan. "I read a bit of BPRD.I'm having trouble finding other books.i love the Hellboy movie but never read the book.Maybe i'll give it a try.I tried reading Witchblade before.Didn't work out for me.I'm more of a street level vigilante type character reader.Witchblade is out of that.I mean I have read and liked comics with characters that aren't street level but Witchblade doesn't do it for me. "
" @Vance Astro: The most acclaimed Vertigo books include:I didn't even know half this stuff was Vertigo.i think i've actually read a few of these.I never read V for Vendetta, though I've always wanted to.I saw it once in the comic shop.I had to make a choice between that and Red Sonja.Apparently I chose her.
- various runs on Hellblazer, though some writers are obviously better than others
- Moore's Swamp Thing run
- Brian Azzarello's 100 Bullets (how Zoom hasn't forced you to read it I don't know)
- Fables (which you've read)
- Morrison's Animal Man (Delano's Animal Man is better IMO but nobody knows who Delano is so they just read Morrison's and never see what came after)
- Morrison's Doom Patrol, one of the finest things he ever wrote
- The Sandman, one of the greatest comics of all time
- Preacher, it's mostly talked about by morons who don't understand why it's so awesome but it is a great comic
- Y: The Last Man, one of the more modern instant classics
- Transmetropolitan, if you don't love this book it's because you can't handle truth
- Jason Aaron's Scalped, one of the best noir stories I've ever read
- Invisibles by Morrison, it's a mindf@#k but that's what people love the guy for, Vertigo's first ongoing creator-owned series, split into three volumes/seven trades
- Dysart's Unknown Soldier, it's a more recent gem and is ending next month but I've come across a lot of love for it on other comic reviewing sites and I echo those feelings
- The Unwritten, newer comic, on its way to becoming one of the greatest
- Morrison's Filth, again, people love it
- Brian Wood's Demo Vol. 1 and II...magnificent, prefer Vol. 2 myself but all the stories are self-contained and Cloonan's art (from American Virgin) is magnificent!
- 100% by Paul Pope, part of the After Watchmen thing, it's a beautiful story that demands to be read
- Gaiman's Black Orchid, where the heroine dies in the opening pages
- Death, High Cost of Living and Time of Your Life, beautiful stories with an amazing character
- Peter Milligan's Human Target, magnificent tale of identity
- Morrison's Kid Eternity, Fegredo's art makes it perfect
- Pride of Baghdad, nobody reads this book and doesn't acknowledge they are holding the perfect example of the ultimate original graphic novel in their hands
- Jason Aaron's Other Side, flawless
- Uncle Sam, Alex Ross is probably the reason for most of the acclaim but it's a great story
- V for Vendetta, sure you've read it
- Morrison's WE3, pulls at a lot of people's heartstrings
"
other then that there are dozens of other comics I would gladly recommend but I gave you a list of some of the most critically acclaimed...since you and I don't always share comic tastes, I'll let the general populace speak instead
I think all companies have their good and bad. Once I realized I didn't have to read every title involving certain characters (Wolverine,Spider-Man) and just the good stuff I was quite a bit more satisfied. For instance I only read Wolverine in his solo series (new one by Aaron) and X-Force. It works for me.
I hope you find something you really enjoy.
Secret Six - one of the best books published right now.
Hawkeye and Mockingbird
Mighty Crusaders (Andy of the Red Circle characters DC took over TBH. Shield and Web were great)
Star Wars: Blood Ties
Gotham City Sirens
Star Wars: The Old Republic
All great books IMO. I enjoy Freedom Fighters and Outsiders too, but that might be because I'm a long time follower.
" @Vance Astro: What I would do is read the good books. I'll give you a list of books that I'm liking right now.Well that's what I have been doing.I have been reading alot of old Marvel and DC but i'm unhappy with what is happening currently because it's like i'm working my way up to nothing.

I think i'm more revoking my fanboyism for Marvel. They aren't good enough for me anymore.I was looking for someone who is more consistent with quality comics that I like and there seems to be none.In 2004 and before,Marvel was god to me." @Vance Astro: Those are all current books.I understand what you mean. If I were you, I would look for the "diamonds in the rough" so to speak. Then go read back issues to satisfy any other needs. I can give plenty of references to great stuff. "

"I think i'm more revoking my fanboyism for Marvel. They aren't good enough for me anymore. "they haven't been good enough for any serious comic readers since 1998.

" Wouldn't go that far. "Not everything they did or still do was bad but I haven't seen any reason for any steady buying of their comics since 1998.
"comic books are dying out!!!!! "not really true but what's your point even if they were?
" thats why its so hard to get good comics nowadays. "I have no trouble finding good comics. The world of comics is a lot bigger then just marvel and DC. Who's universes are both a mess.
