Vegeta turns into a super saiyan, but gets punched in the crotch and in the face as he's being distracted by his cocky attitude.

Vegeta is firing the ki volley, but Gladiator is surviving
Gladiator: Forgot this!
He uses his super strength, and hits him in the face with a light pole, then uses the heat beams, reverting him back to normal
Vegeta: Oh, no. Looks like I underestimated this purple fellow
Gladiator laser visions him in the crotch
Conclusion-
While Vegeta's ki was able to do some damage and the super saiyan form boosted his durability, strength and speed, Gladiator's heat vision, durability and super strength were able to continue the battle and wear Vegeta out.
