A Dim Light in the Darkness of Despair: Humanity Rises Again, Part 1 last edited by cloudguy on 05/03/21 02:23PM View full history

Japanese title: Zetsubō no Naka de Nibuku Hikaru -Jinrui no Saiki (1)- (絶望の中で鈍く光る ―人類の再起①―)

The drill instructor Shardis evaluates the new recruits and taunts them with insults. When he finds Cadet Braus, eating a boiled potato while in lineup, he makes her run around the camp until sunset without food or drink. Tensions begin between Eren who wants to fight the titans, and Jean who wants to take a cushy position in the Military Police posted in the inner city walls. The recruits train on an Omni-directional Mobility Gear (ODM) simulator, where they have to maintain balance while suspended on just two cables. Eren has trouble balancing and continually fails. The following day, Eren almost balances on the apparatus but falls again, however Shardis discovers that he was issued defective equipment, and so Eren passes.

    Routine But Necessary 0

For the third episode we have the inevitable basic training episode, where friendships and rivalries develop among the recruits. There aren't really any surprises here, and as you can imagine it serves as a way to get the background and motivations of a lot of characters out of the way. Fine for what it is, but it will probably leave you (like some of the recruits) hungry for some real action....
