    Annihilation

    Story arc »

The Annihilation Wave sweeps through the galaxy extinguishing all life in its path. This involves Nova, Galactus, Silver Surfer, Annihilus and a lot more.

Is Annihilators a follow to Annihilation?

To catch up with it? Well if you want to know the hows and whys of every cosmic event since Civil War, it all starts with Annihilation, then Annihilation Conquest, then some Nova and Guardians of the Galaxy comics spawned out of that, leading and tying into War of Kings and Realm of Kings. Some more Nova and Guardians issues. Then we get to The Thanos Imperative and that's what leads into the current Annihilators. Does that mean you have to read all that to enjoy the new Annihilators mini series that's coming out? Probably not. It shouldn't be that difficult to pick up issue 1 of Annihilators and be happy. You might not know every character right off the bat but it shouldn't hinder you from the story. If you like it and wanna delve deeper into some of the stories leading up to it, then pick up Annihilation.

Its really sort of more exploitation. Well in a fairl natural and organic way sure, but Annihilation sold big and was huge and so a team called the Annihilators may be able to capitalize off that.

I agree with NexusOfLight's recommendation. You could pick up Annihilators and be okay, its alright so far, and picking up that other stuff, especially Annihilation and Thanos Imperative would be awesome, just because one was awesome and the other does semi relate to how Annihilators was formed.

War Of Kings explains how the fault in Thanos Imperative came to be. Annihilators is really like a "next chapter" story. It is a resolution made by the characters in light of tragic events at the end of Thanos Imperative. Sort of a "we can never let this happen again" kind of thing. So far it is really good. It gives you enough background information to be a stand alone story. I've read everything cosmic since Marvel Universe: The End, which led to the Thanos series, which led to Annihilation. Annihilation was a real cosmic kick start for Marvel. Having said that, if you read everything starting with Annihilation, you will have a better understanding and a deeper appreciation for the characters in play and the plots developing in Annihilators, but it's not... imperative.

I never got to read Annihilation until recently, and didn't have any trouble getting into the War of Kings storyline (though I did read GOTG from the get go). This one should actually be easier to get into, though it isn't as great as what came before so far.

The best thing you could read to catch up is apparently ROM the Spaceknight, since that basically covers the whole plot. No story with any of the main characters of the Annihilators is a factor.

All you need to know about the previous arcs mentioned is that Starlord created the Guardians of the Galaxy, but what the universe needed was the Annihilators. It's all explained in Thanos Imperative: Devastation one shot, so you could pick up that if need be.
