Eh, this isn't new for Turkey.
Part of Turkish Military attempt a military coup
@mysticmedivh: If the coup were winning, there wouldn't be other reports and certainly no people on the streets. Everyone is making statements. The only account of military being in control was in the main television network which was one of the buildings occupied. It got off the air pretty soon afterwards.
Historically speaking the Turkish military are the most secular part of the government and always step in when they are getting to fundamentalist. This has happened like 10 times now.

"Clashes are taking place between police forces and military forces in Ankara. According to reports, 17 police officers died because of the military attack on special police forces building."
Vid shows military shooting over the heads of civilians.

Damn it goes to show you how conditioned people have become. When you think military you usually think the bad guys.
This is Madness...
This is Madness...
lol that was what entered my mind. We're probably going to hell.
@starsprime3: everybody safe?
@mysticmedivh: ok.
Situation still very fluide. The night will be long
@rabumalal: So you think the coup was fake... :/ I hate manipulation like that if it's true.
If it were real would you be for or against?
It's over. Turkish people ended the coup.
If only they had arrested Erdogan first and shut him up before starting the coup.
Erdogan is apparently blaming the US for this.
Lel.
Were his next words white cis males because that would just top it off?
Well look at the bright side... Give now much support the people had for Erdogan, if the military had actually managed to take power, we would a massive resistance of radical Islamists against a secular government. Last thing we need is Turkey falling to ISIS and those madman having access to nukes.

From what I understand, Turkey doesn't have nukes, but the US has nuclear weapons on Turkish ground.
If things got out of hand Uncle Sam would take care of it. It would probably move its nukes elsewhere if things got really bad.

The weird thing being that he wasn't there to begin with when this started. Either he knew it was coming, the military botched the timing, or there's more going on.

Well, that is one thing to worry less about. Either way, its disheartening to hear the population would prefer a theocracy than an actual secular government, which should be the norm everywhere in the world. But given the possibility of the disgruntled Muslim population turning to radicalism which is is extremely likely given how quickly they turned to Erdogan's aid, its best that things remain that way. If he got himself killed, it would have been even worse. They would turned him into a martyr and they would probably turned to ISIS.

From what I understand, the very reason they did the coup today was because they knew Erdogan was away, so they saw it s an opportunity to strike.
@dernman: It is simply not logical to support military coups, especially in Turkey. Yeah, this one seems superfake right now seeing as the next day the announcements so far show a grim direction. Even if it weren't fake, which I highly doubt, government is still stronger for it.
From what I have heard, Erdogan is trying to turn Turkey into islamic nation, while the army wants to stop the further islamisation of the country and protect the secularism. Most citizens support Erdogan.
This might very well be completely false, as I don't have reliable sources of the information.

Yeah.

Sort of...
Erdogan's last comment was about the Syrian refugees that came to Turkey, he said that he could give citizenship to the Syrian refugees and then this happened, he also said that Syrian people who came to Turkey are no different than the Turks that went to Germany before, but it's blatantly false, since Turks never ran from a war in their own country like the Syrian did, they went to Germany for only working, not because of running from the war like Syrians. Syrians also using the war as an excuse to come Turkey, because in the Religious Festivals they are going back to Syria and after the Festivals they are returning to the Turkey again, which only proves that they are not really honest with their own reason.
