Deathstroke Rebirth #1

All-Star Batman #1

Is All-Star Batman really $4.99? If so, I'm disappointed in DC. I guess maybe because it's not part of Rebirth?

All-New X-Men 12 - This is Hopeless's last chance. Maybe, just MAYBE this issue is the one that X-23 puts her head on straight, realizes just how stupidly she's acting, (even though she already realized that after she let Blob, of all people, stomp her head in) and starts acting like HERSELF again. If, not I'm dropping it. Editorial needs to get THEIR shit together, and stop allowing different writers to write the same character like completely different people in different books.

Deadpool and the Mercs for Money 2 - The first issue was pretty good, right now I'm mostly interested to see how Bunn explains how Negasonic Teenage Warhead is still alive after Necrosha.

It has an extra back-up feature which means extra pages so it should definitely be at least $3.99 instead of $2.99. Scott Snyder himself said that it's canon, in continuity alongside Tom King's Batman so it must be a part of Rebirth.

@apokos7: Thanks for the reply. I had thought they sorta "promised" us $2.99 on all single issues so it's disappointing to see this happen already. This is how they did it last time. This means within a year they will be back to Marvel prices. :-(

@showdown4lpha: You're welcome. Well, the extra pages make it sort of a special issue. Anyway, let's hope they keep the $2.99 price tag as long as they can.

@apokos7: Last time with their "Drawing the line at $2.99" initiative, they started at $2.99 for a bit. Then said "Wellll, certain books will have backup stories and they will now cost $3.99". Then they just slowly changed their books to $3.99.

I knew it would happen, I just was hoping they would make it at least 12 months lol.

But yeah, most comics nowadays are $3.99 so any $2.99 we get is just a bonus anyway. One thing that really drew me to Rebirth was the price point though. The books are definitely good, but the competition for my money will be tough for them at an equal price with Marvel.

@eto: The back-up features will feature Duke Thomas as he grows up to his own mantle. I don't know how relevant they will be to the main story. I suppose they should be.

@apokos7: Thanks for clearing this up :). At first, I was on the verge of not getting the book, because of the price. Then I was like: "hello it's Snyder and the book will probably have more pages."

If only I had a comic bookshop nearby in my city (I live in The Netherlands), I would have bought more from DC instead of just ASBatman and RHATO

I have to order the comics from a site and pay for the shipping costs ;(

Ooh well.

That's a real shame. You could always wait for trades instead of single issues. Bookdepository ships at Europe with no additional shipping cost but not for single issues. Trades are usually cheaper than individual issues anyway and you'll be free of the ads too. The only negative is that you'll have to wait about half a year. You can consider digital reading too to avoid shipping costs.

Completely different status quo too. How is Laura touring with the O5 while also looking after Gabby at Logan's apartment in her own book?

My best guess is that All-New X-Men is set sometime before All-New Wolverine, and that Laura learns her lesson and goes back to being HERSELF as Wolverine (and all the meticulous strategy that entails) rather than trying to be who Logan WAS in time for her own series (though unfortunately it means that she DOES get back with that waste of time Warren. She deserves WAY better).

Unfortunately, Marvel seems to just not care about that sort of thing anymore. A simple editor's note of "X takes place before Y" on the first story page is all that is needed to clear up confusion when they have so many characters appearing in multiple books. In fact they USED to do that kind of stuff. But instead of actually DOING THEIR JOBS, editorial is letting writers do whatever without making sure that everyone is on the same page (see Hopeless vs. Taylor, or Bendis vs. the entire rest of the writing staff).

@stormphoenix: I'm in the same situation. I'm 38 and grew up with Marvel since I was 9. But I've drifted heavily toward DC this year.

My main interests with Marvel this year have been the Star Wars titles. I've missed a lot, but the comics I do have are awesome.

I have a similar issue, though I'm not outside of the US. It's just that I live in a city that when someone tries to start a comic shop, they either can't maintain it for personal reasons, or it's not successful. The closest shop to me is a few towns over, and with the fact that I work two jobs all seven days of the week and also lack of transportation, I have to get my comics from a site. Hate the shipping cost, but it's offset quite a bit since I get a discount for pre-ordering. Just curious, what site do you use? I use TFAW, pretty solid, good prices.

I use this site:https://www.archonia.com/mangashop/en/

These guys' place is in Belgium and they ship to everywhere in Europe.

Actually, it's also cheap. I mean, I'm getting ASBatman(4,70euro) and RHATO(2,80euro). Unfortunately shipping costs...

Well Marvel basically flooded the market, forced major character changes and had a lot of mediocre writing on top of all of it. DC has returned to a lot of original characters and even some of the new ones in a big way. I am looking forward to when Blue Beetle gets his own series again :)

Thank you living commercial :P What can you tell me about the Supergirl series?

Kidding. I am looking forward to that series and I am deep in most other DC rebirth series right now. Wonder Woman, Green Lantern Corps, Batman, etc.

@doc-holiday: @showdown4lpha:EXACTLY. You both hit the nail on the head. Marvel has made some BIG changes and I myself as a reader am not sure if it's for the GOOD? or BAD? As of NOW it's the bad they're rehashing the same material, the freaking prices of the comics is ridiculous, my favorite team is being X-out(No pun intended) my favorite character is being written wrong and not cared for and will soon get the Boot from Marvel, and UGH don't get me started on the summer EVENTS!!!!.........I wasn't joking when I said i'm moving to DC and it KILLS me because I BARELY even like DC. The only characters that get me even remotely interested is Aquaman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Shazam, Sometimes Flash, Sometimes Superman, the Justice League and DC's Animated movies.

So I REALLY have to give it to DC they are doing a AWESOME JOB they got me interested in two characters that I NEVER thought i'd try out: Flash, Deathstroke -_- *Well Played DC...WELL PLAYED*

@stormphoenix: You want to know what gets me about Marvel? The events, they drag all the characters in and hold them hostage "Want to see what happens to _____? Then you better buy every single issue that comes out between now and the end of time".

With DC, I can read the main event or I can just enjoy single issues, it's up to me. It's why I like DC more, they have events, yes, but they don't hold characters hostage the same way Marvel does and they don't drastically change the way Marvel does (at least not nearly as much). DC is smart, they have multiple universes and use them.

@doc-holiday:Yep Yep. My only issue with DC is the Events becasue I don't understand them LOL. But you are right Marvel changes at the drop of a hat. And most of it is unnecessary I understand they want NEW blood and incorporate new things, but kill and destroy your orginal characters that helped you where you are today?! Is not how you go about it.

@stormphoenix: Nope. DC has it handled much better; build up the old characters who were originall part of teams or didn't have as big on solo runs or simply make new characters, i.e. the new Green Lanterns, Cyborg, Blue Beetle (although the last two have had their own series before, but I am hoping these new ones are better).

Also, I do recommend going backwards too, there are some older comics worth reading, especially from guys like Garth Ennis; Preacher, Crossed the Badlands (super dark), The Boys (super powers and super dark) and also anything by Mark Millar; Superior, Super Crooks, Nemesis.

It's all more human looks at how super heroes would be, all these 'incorruptible, high and mighty' types don't really stand up too well when you consider how real people behave. Real people can be selfish, make mistakes, be terrible and that is fine and that is what those comics highlight better than any.

And I wanna say because it's more appealing and NOT dark. I have been saying this for a while now DC and Marvel are fighting to be the NUMBER #1 in Cinematic Movies. The critics I personally think they did that becasue I doubt they even KNOW what or who they are. They barely know the characters.

And you can't blame Marvel because they have been hitting there movies out of the ball park. So.....as for now Marvel IS the GOLD standard for a Superhero movie.

@stormphoenix: Sorry, to be accurate I meant as in a method of visual story-telling, that is, how to introduce characters and concepts, not the entirety of the film process. Not sure if that makes any more sense.
