Threat from Breakworld
Anxiety was taking over me to read this book, not only because it´s a new creative team, but because it´s about one of the best arc stories about the X-Men - it took place in Astonishing X-Men # 19-24, writen by Joss Whedon and penciled by John Cassaday a fantastic story called Unstopabble - Kieron Gillen really killed in this first issue, showing that he has done his homework, looking very familiarized with the characters, delivering top notch dialogues, especially the ones with Cyclops and Magneto and the ones involving Abigail Brand, in fact, the characterization of Namor, Magneto, Colossus, Dr. Nemesis and Agent Brand were spectacular, it felt like Gillen was writing the X-Men for decades now - this issue introduces us to a possible threat coming from the Breakworld and even Gillen took his time to set all pieces in the table, he didn´t rush into this, what was really cool, because by doing so he allowed the readers to know what´s going on with all the X-Men involved in this issue (ok, not all, but the most important for this plot, being Colossus, Kitty and apparently Magneto). Terry Dodson is an unique artist, I like his style a lot, it fits perfectly for the X-Men and I think with Ponsor´s colors this book looked astonishing - now that introductions were made, a mind blowing final page was showed, I´m hoping that in future issues action will rise, because X-Men rhymes with action. The best thing in this issue were some dialogues and the art - the plot and the story were very nice too, but there were some dialogues that made me laugh a lot - the bad part about this issue were the first 4 pages, but I totally understand the need of them, it was just a means to proper introduce this arc story (that I´m hoping will give Kitty a solution for her phasing condition). A brand new start for the X-Men and I highly recommend this issue! Terrific start!
