Top 10 Batman Villains

Spider-Man is my favorite Superhero. And quite possibly my favorite fictional character of all time. And as much as i love his universe and web of enemies, i have to be honest and say that Batman has him beat when it comes to who has the supreme line-up of villains. For crying out loud the character's practically write themselves and even the lesser known ones got alot going on. Metahumans, Gangsters, Assassin's and everything in between, there's something for everybody. So once again out of boredom i've decided to do a count down, this time centering around the The Dark Knight's best foes! In my opinion of course. So without further ado let's get to the countdown!

10. Poison Ivy

No Caption Provided

Easily my favorite female Batvillain. Probably my favorite female villain period. I don't personally find her personality to be all that interesting, but her powers and relationship with Harley just makes her character for me. Firstly she's one of the few Batman villains with legit superpowers, making her one of the most powerful. But to be honest she shines most when we see the more human side of her. Like her friendship with Harley, and her ability to sympathize with people who experienced the same abuse she did. She should still be bad. But "replace the humans with plants" thing makes me forget that she used to be human.

9. Black Mask

No Caption Provided

Had it not been for the Arkham games, this character would be no where near my list. That being said, Black Mask is the bomb. He's brutal, sadistic, and has a Mask made out of the wood from his dead father burned onto his face permanently. What's not to love? He's also one of the more well dressed villains, whether it's his orange attire with the more human shaped mask, or the White suit with the skull, Roman always looks slick. He's easily my favorite of the Mob Boss type of the Bat Rogues. I honestly don't have a ton to say, i just like having him in Batman stories because of his design and just how unhinged he can be.

8. Hugo Strange

No Caption Provided

One of Batman's lesser known Rogues, Hugo Strange is actually also one of his oldest having been around since 1940. Hugo's deal is that he became so obsessed with the Dark Knight that he sought to replace him, turning to psychotic ends to achieve this goal. He even has a replica Batsuit that he prances around in when he's alone. He's really underrated, he not only would be a perfect mental match for Batman, but it'd be nice to see him employ some of his more crazier schemes on the big screen. Mind control plots and creating monster men for example. The guy knows Batman's identity! Why he hasn't played a bigger role in making Batman's life a living hell is beyond me. Not to mention his iconic design. That bald head, the glasses and beard is all the supervillain costume he needs. Have him be the villain of the Batfleck film. He could be the brains, and someone like Croc, Man-Bat or Clayface could be the muscle. It'd be perfect.

7. Two-Face

No Caption Provided

Two-Face is so high on the list because he really isn't handled all that well alot of the time. I like him alot, but there are also times when i hate him. I don't like the more classic goofy Two-face who was always about 2's and his face didn't look like a burn victim but more like he was half ogre. I mean, why would acid do that to your face and make your hair spike up? Heck he was absent in the comics for like a decade because writers had no idea what do with him. Still, portrayals of Two-Face like on the Dark Knight or Long Halloween is where he really finds his stride. He shouldn't be some over the top mob boss. No, he should be a broken man fueled by vengeance and his mental issues. His actions should be him lashing back at the criminals who hurt him and the justice system that failed him. He was once friends with Batman but i feel like this is hardly ever brought up. His obsession with duality can be good too when done right. I know it sounds like i'm shitting on the character but i really do like him. It's just that he shouldn't just be a gangster like Black Mask or the Penguin.

6.Hush

Aside from his awful introduction story i really do like Hush as a villain. I love his design, his suit looks just so makeshift and simple but that's why i like about it. No extravagant costume, just a bandaged face and a trench-coat. But what i like most about Hush is his twisted backstory and the fact that he uses his surgical expertise to help in his crimes. Hush hates both Batman and Bruce Wayne and is the Antithesis to both. Elliot is so demented that he'd go insane lengths to achieve vengeance on his friend. And what's crazier, Bruce wasn't even aware that he'd offended him in any regard. Elliot became a successful surgeon and still wanted Bruce's doom despite Bruce not really having anything to do with his "plight." But the icing on the cake is his name. At first i thought that he was named Hush in reference to him being such a secretive character initially. But in truth, his name comes from the nursery rhyme about a child who was never satisfied with what he had.

5. Clayface

No Caption Provided

Hell yeah! I love Clayface! Karlo though, i can't really stand any of the other ones. Like Ivy, he's one of the few villains that have actual superpowers so a confrontation between him and Batman won't end with a single beat down. I'm a huge horror film buff so Karlo being based off Boris Karloff is a plus for me. His film The Terror has also become an iconic part of the Batman mythos. But the best part about him is his motivation. All the world is a stage now that Karlo has become one of the monsters he always portrayed in his movies. And his plots are never simply just about money. He's an actor first and foremost. He started his crime spree because his movie was being remade without him as the lead. He put himself in Arkham City just so he could have the role of a lifetime and deceive everyone as the Joker. I think he's at his most interesting when characterized like this. Not much else to say, but i also consider him to be a visual spectacle, and he was actually the first Batman villain i met who wasn't in the movies.

4. Scarecrow

No Caption Provided

There was a time when Scarecrow was my number 1 Batman villain. His obsession with Fear is compelling and his use of the Fear Gas can make for great stories and moments. And while his costumes are usually hit or miss i do say overall he has one of the best designs in the Bat-Villain Family. But the most interesting part about him is his backstory. Mainly because i believe it's actually really human. He was bullied relentlessly and this started his fixation on Fear so he could conquer and master it. Unfortunately this took him down a dark path. Coming to believe that fear is the supreme factor in the universe. And you know what he's kinda right. And that's the scary part. And sure his plots get a bit repetitive sometimes, i still find him highly entertaining.

3. Mr. Freeze

No Caption Provided

Not the easiest character to work with, in the hands of a bad writer you'll miss the point of the character. But when the character works, he really works. Freeze was loving husband, who's heart was frozen by tragedy. And the brilliant part is, that's it. He just wants to save his wife. Everything he does is for her. His descent into madness and villainy is understandable because he was a decent guy in a bad situation. That being said, i feel like Freeze shouldn't be used all that often, there should be a end in mind for the Nora arc, and i feel like he should range from Anti-hero to villain. One minute he'll ally with Batman, and fight him the next if his goals are put in jeopardy. And if he's constantly showing up it kinda diminishes the whole Nora story(I mean this the DC universe, why is it taking so long to find a cure? I'm not saying make him one-off, just don't ride that storyline for so long or it becomes redundant.) Other than that, great villain. I love his motif, Winter settings are always nice for a Batman story.

2. Killer Croc

No Caption Provided

This is probably a huge shock, most of you might think i'm crazy. But i don't care. I love Killer Croc. He isn't even the deepest character or the most consistent, but i really do like him. Initially i hadn't thought of putting him this high, but the more i think of it, i haveto. Ever since my first introduction to him in Lego Batman: The Video Game, i've just been really down for his character. I remember his boss fight and level being one of my favorites in the game. Croc is like Grundy for me, he doesn't have depth but i just love seeing him in action. He's variable, he can be a mobster, a terrifying cannibal(Arkahm Croc's eyes always give me the creeps.), a thug for hire, or maybe a misunderstood anti-hero. I love animals, Crocodiles being one of my favorites, so seeing a batman villain with a Crocodile gimmick was enough to peak my interest. I'm also a big scenery guy, and i enjoy confrontations with him because they seem to always take in sewers or aquatic places. His names is also almost identical to this kid i went to school with and elementary and i just think it's funny. And while writers really know how to get wrong with him,(Can we stop giving him a tail and snout? He has a SKIN CONDITION. Lizard clone Croc is way less interesting) he's still one of my all time favorites.

1. The Joker

No Caption Provided

"Very Original." I know this is probably alot of people's pick but i just can't help it. Sure i could've left him off the list to give spotlight on other villains, but that wouldn't have been right in my eyes. Joker is one of the greatest fictional characters period. And is the King of all Batman villains. The only thing i don't like is that he is OVERUSED. Yes any Batman adaption should have Joker at some point, but Joker has been known to cause the shafting of other great characters. A huge example of this is the Arkham series, but i won't be getting too much into that. Because honestly, Joker's the best Batman villain. And i don't think many people will argue otherwise.

Aaaaaaaaaaaand there we gooooo.
