I'm really pleased with all of the entries.. I think we really got to see a lot of creativity here..
The names of the artist will be over their character.

@yuenish_leshathe:
Why aren't they official entries?
They do have a plant theme happening..
you should choose your favorite one and enter it!

Lots of big named Batman arcs get turned into graphic novels and sold at my nearby Barns & Nobles. But I'm still new to comic reading.. Do ya'll think this arc will be turned into a book since there is only 3 parts? Maybe the one shots would be added to make it bigger.. I bought R.I.P. that way but I don't know weather to wait or not.. and maybe I'm different but I do prefer a graphic novel over a bunch of comics..

" do we have to draw cacty or do we make up our own superhero? "
Cacty is just an example of the randomness that you can do..
Make up your own hero or villain based off of any plant life..
Hes a Cactus.. you can do a tree, flower, lily pad, vine, mushroom, blueberry bush, palm tree, corn stalk, or whatever else you can think of..
Get creative..

I wanted Comicvine to have a contest where you completely make or remake a character. I wanted to see the artist's imagination at work when instead of being given an already made character.. they have to make up their own and then put it on paper. In this contest few guidelines should be given, and I'm hoping this will allow artist to draw what they want. By creating a male/female or hero/villain with options wide open.

For the test run I thought I'd choose something that can demonstrate the amount of choices artist have. Follow these rules:
Species: Plant hybrid
Abilities: Powers come from its plant parts..

Due date: 5/27/09 midnight

Example:
Cacty

Cacty is a character I drew who walks around using his roots as tentacles. He smashes things up with his massive mace-like hands, and bites whatever gets in his way with toxic barbed teeth. Hes labeled a villain but all he really wants is something to eat.

Edit:
I sketched out another character and just thought id post him up here..

I named him Kudzoo
His life comes from the ancient wooden mask that is part of his body..
He is actually composed of a bunch of tree limbs wrapped up in Kudzu..and he uses these vines as whips or lassos to grab things and smash..

" yo, manimal and oc diva what are you guys deciding...one thread with rotating theme each week or several threads? "
I think what we have decided to do is to make contest #3 and see how it unfolds...
I kind of want it to work by the creator giving specifications on a character and leaving it at that.. but that is just my opinion..
It should be somewhat vague so that the artist is able to make a male/female or hero/villain depending on what they want to draw..
This way.. the entries will all look very different from each other since we all have a set of very different ideas..

" I like idea #3!!!!and try what if ______ was a HULK? "
I think ideas like this can work... but the blank shouldn't be filled in..
Topics like these stray pretty close to the Amalgam competition.. but if the blank is left empty we can see lots of different people, aliens, or even animals becoming the Hulk.

I'm going to make a Character Creation Contest #1..
I'm gonna try to demonstrate how vague it could be so we can see all of the possibilities.. and I look forward to seeing the entries ya'll come up with!
I'll post it up after I draw a quick example...

"For #3, you mean contests like "What if a _________ had crashed through the window when Bruce Wayne was looking for a symbol?" or "What if Peter Parker had been bitten by a radioactive _________?""
Yes those are some options.. but then a contest only like that would get limited.. people who make the competition would be able to take comic characters and tweak them, or create something brand new by just giving specifications...

Hey everyone.. me and OCDiva were throwing around ideas today about different types of drawing competitions we could start up.. We really like showdowns that force creativity instead and thought instead of redrawing someone..  I just wanted to throw some ideas around and see what you guys think.

1)We liked the Gender Bender Competition that died after only one try in the past.. Its cool to think about what a character would look like if they were actually a girl or guy..
An example would be Wolverine -> X-23

2)Another competition we thought of would be a 1v1 battle between whoever..
She loves Wonder Woman and so we got on the topic of.. what other female hero could even beat her? It would be cool to see other people's choices and then illustrate them winning...
I've actually had to illustrate how Batman could beat Wolverine to prove my point.. and I'm sure winners will choose some classic battles.. but It would also be an opportunity for you to just take the over powered Superman and have your favorite Harley Quinn beat him up... or take two people that will never see each other and have them fight.

3)I think our favorite idea is to remake characters with a big twist or just create our own characters.. We have just dueled each other with specifications like Catwoman in space.. or flying animal hero.. this will give winners to have the comicvine artist create their ultimate hero or villain..
So some examples of competitions would be:
~ Merman with robot parts and fish parts..   or
~ The animal you would be as a Ninja Turtle.. or
~ Batman if he had been a sea creature: Jellyfish-man, Stingray-man, Cuddlefish-man.. or
~ Ingredients: Female, Zombie, Fire

Anyone like these ideas or have some of their own? How many competitions is too many?
