@Duchess: Unlike most Kastiel wasn't taken by surprise. This was the Claire he knew and then right when he thought it was time to take his leave she finally caught him by surprise. "Claire, if we end up watching the Titanic and the Lion King you'll ruin my reputation." Only she could get a Symaarian to watch movies with her until she was content. Ironically it was how they first met.
@Duchess: Maybe he should have been softer. He had no idea everyone else was resentful of this union. She probably told everyone else and just hoped Kastiel would be the one to be genuinely happy. "It's fine...I didn't know. I would have been kinder with my words. We'll talk again soon, promise. But right now you need rest." He held her against him gently as he always did. Claire was always confident and so sure of herself. Now with everyone against her that could weaken her. "Want to go to your room for the day? I'm sure Jean will see you as soon as possible." He did all he could not to sigh and have a neutral tone as much as possible. Stroking her he just had to say it, "I just want you to be sure. Sure more than anything else in your life. You're still young, Claire, and young people can make mistakes."
@Duchess: Everything she was saying is true. It wasn't going to last long. The last marriage ended with war against all of humanity. The wife before that wants to kill him and that's all Kas knew. He was sure others knew about more of Jean's vengeful women than he did. So why? Why on Earth would Claire put herself through this? She was just like any other woman when it came to love. He only knew one that would fall over so easily and that one? That would always stay a secret. This, however, was bomb waiting to blow. Though he would so some support. Not for the marriage but for Claire only. "Don't turn your back on me, Claire. I'm not going to hurt you. I'm not going to say this is the biggest mistake of your life. I won't if it hurts you that bad." He looked at her before taking light steps forward. "I'll show some support because you're my...friend and if you'll have me I'll be at the wedding." Things were quiet lately. Drama free and now things seemed to be stirring up again. "Now where's that hug I promised you?" Hopefully this one would turn out okay. It would ruin Claire if everything went completely wrong. She wouldn't be the same woman as she once was. That's what love does.
@Duchess: Why wasn't she looking at him? Wasn't marriage a good thing? He was happy for her. He couldn't stress that enough. She shouldn't be ashamed. Finally she got the courage to look him directly in the eye and just as fast as her answer came so did his smile. "Jean? Jean?! You're just joking with me, Claire? Right? It's the Cajun after all. The guy you worked with. Not someone you would take to bed with you. Let alone marry." All the color left his face as he stood up walking toward the window. This was the "good" news? "You're still in the honeymoon stage, Claire. It's been less than a month I'm sure. Are you really serious with this?" He couldn't believe it. He just couldn't.
