Kwai Chang Caine from the 70s TV series Kung Fu.

He's a shaolin monk and is pretty realistic. Most of his opponents aren't martial artists because the show is a Western but he's fought some skilled opponents.

Mirio does very well but I don't see him being able to keep Bradley down.

@harrisonmesko Genos is not PPPrisoner level especially not with his new upgrades. Look up the Virtual Genocide Simulation story, Genos has a rematch with Deep Sea King and it shows how much stronger he's become and how far he still has to go before he's top tier. That was only post G4 Genos, now he should be even further beyond that power.

Don't read this if you don't want to know what happens but Genos kills Deep Sea King with some punches and a single blast easily and then right after that he fights Carnage Kabuto fifty times in a row and gets blitzed and one shotted every single time. For comparison Metal Bat lasts three minutes against Kabuto (although in a real fight he would have gotten pumped up and kept fighting past that point but in the simulation he just dies) and Darkshine goes all out and beats Kabuto in a long battle. I think it was six minutes but I'm not sure. It's crazy to think about but Darkshine could legitimately fight thousands of Puri Puri Prisoners and stomp them all.

If Zombie Man's opponent fought the other S-Class heroes who would his closest match be? I'm going to put him tentatively at Sweet Mask level. (Sweet Mask counts as an S-Class hero.)

In Star Wars there's supposedly always a significant chance that the carbonite freezing process will kill a person but it never seems to happen. In Dragon Ball using the kaioken is said to be dangerous and potentially fatal but besides that one time that Goku lost control of his energy from overdoing the kaioken it's never really hurt him even though it supposedly could make him explode. In One Piece Luffy has done all sorts of reckless things to his body and even when he has a 1/100 chance of surviving a poison or is minutes away from destroying his heart with gear second he recovers just fine.

I could find other examples but you get the idea. There's something in fiction that supposedly has a significant chance of killing the hero but they make it out okay or they're said to have a very tiny chance of survival but surprise, they live.

Has this ever been subverted? Has anyone in anime ever used something like the kaioken and then they actually die like the story said they could? Has there ever been a character that took a pill that could either kill theme or make them stronger and it didn't end well for them?

I just don't like the fake tension this trope creates.
