Kazuyuki is a foreshadowed character in Kodocha, after the characters start junior high. He appears in the background of panels, looking at Akito Hayama, whom he admires.

Kazuyuki's mother is strict, oppressive and abusive. She forces Kazuyuki to only focus on school and won't let him have any friends. He fears her and must obey her.

Kazuyuki looks up to Akito, because Akito is a rebel and does what he wants. He wants to be Akito's friend, even though the two of them never actually interact.

Kazuyuki just wants Akito as a friend.

When the students of Jinbo Junior High are asked to complete a survey, one of the categories being making a list of their friends, Kazuyuki asks Akito if he can list him as his friend. Confused, Akito just says "Why? You should put your own friends' names down. Me? I don't even know your name." This is devastating for Kazuyuki, and he runs away.

Later, his mother, Mrs. Komori shows up at the school, demanding to see Akito, as Kazuyuki has left a suicide note, and blames Akito for his misery. Akito is told to go home, and will be contacted if any more information is uncovered. While getting his things from his locker, Akito finds Kazuyuki's notebook, left for Akito to find, in which he describes every tiny moment he has spoken to Akito or even been in his presence. Akito feels bad for having hurt Kazuyuki, and determines to go find him. The notebook mentions a place called Lake F. Akito takes the train and finds Kazuyuki there, where he has set up two nooses, and tells Akito that he wants the two of them to die together.

Akito refuses, and tells Kazuyuki that if he wants him dead, he'll have to kill him himself, and kicks Kazuyuki's knife over to him. Akito taunts Kazuyuki and urges him to act out, until Kazuyuki stabs Akito in the arm. Akito acts indifferent, and pulls the knife out of his arm, hands it back to Kazuyuki, and tells him to stab him again, in the heart. Kazuyuki, horrified at what he's done, breaks down in tears. Akito bandages his own wound with his undershirt, and takes Kazuyuki back to the train, refusing to go to a hospital.

When they get back to town, Akito collapses from blood loss and is taken to the emergency room. Kazuyuki is questioned by the police, and admits to stabbing Akito. Mrs. Komori insists that her son isn't capable of killing, and Kazyuki tearfully says "I can kill. I've killed MYSELF, over and over again, for YOU, Mother! Why am I here? Why did you even give birth to me?"

Later on in the story, Kazuyuki and his mother go into counseling, with different counselors. Kazuyuki admits that he has been blacking out and having violent thoughts ever since his father was "transferred at work." He admits he is actually in Ichihara Traffic Prison, but his mother doesn't want Kazuyuki to know, so she has been lying to him, and Kazuyuki has been pretending he doesn't know.

Mrs. Komori's counselor informs her that Kazuyuki already knew about his father, and she breaks down in tears. He comfortingly tells her "Mrs. Komori, children aren't quite as clueless as we adults like to think. Adults aren't always as together as we wish we were. You have to talk to Kazuyuki, openly and honestly. He's not very strong right now. He needs your support."

Kazuyuki and his mother move, and Akito and Sana see them off at the train station, and Akito asks Kazuyuki for his new address and phone number, so they can keep in touch, because they're friends. Kazuyuki apologizes for injuring Akito, but also thanks him for coming to find him, because he's doing better now because of it.

    Personality:

Kazuyuki is shy, quiet and insecure. He is deathly afraid of his own mother, as she is emotionally and psychologically abusive of him. He looks up to Akito and wants to be friends with him because Akito is rebellious and confident. He's mentally unstable, and needs to go to counseling, but he and his mother make their way to a better life.
