Basically in Batman #100 Batman lost all of he’s wealth that means he can’t continue to fund for his war on crime, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have gear, his gear and equipment is still there he just can’t get new stuff and if the stuff he has breaks then there is no getting any new ones.

But Batman is Batman, he isn’t a tech genius or physically gifted individual he’s a hard worker that finds a way to win. People like to classify Batman into groups like Engineer (Ironman) or Brawler (Spidey) but in fact Batman will learn anything that he needs to to win.

So since losing all of his wealth Batman has restarted training in magic it seems. Batman actually tried learn magic from Zatanna’s father, Zatara but he wasn’t good at it and Zatara refused to teach Batman unless he could get the basic concepts and tricks in magic. (Back when Bruce and Zatanna dated, comic detective comic issue 959).

However in a recent comic it is shown Batman knows magic and it’s the same type of speak backwards type magic that Zatanna uses. This suggests that after sometime after Joker War Batman learnt how to use Magic from Zatara and he is know capable of using one spell and that is the Batman magic armour but of course it’s spelt backwards cause it’s Zatanna type magic spells. (Superman: man of tomorrow # 19)

Whether we will see Batman become a full fledged Magician is unknown, we actually have seen Bruce incorporate magical items into his arsenal but most of it is just enchanted gear or he makes Hephaestus make weaponry for him like the bind of veils. Regardless it will be interesting if he does become a magic user.

As Batman said in the above scan “Batman does what he needs to win”. Honestly this path is much better then taking an inhuman path. I personally like this new approach and Batman could stand to get more powerful, yet people get angry when a weak guy like him gets an amp, but when a powerful characters an amp it’s a big thing I personally can’t understand it. Anyway Im on the look out for more of these types of feats from Batman and I hope to see more TBH.

People get angry because it just doesn’t make Batman a regular human anymore, at that point he’s just another guy with superpowers. Not that he was normal to begin with, cause he’s certainly done stuff that characters at his level or below haven’t done.

@wolfrazer: I mean he is still human he can just make magic weaponry and seeming has limited energy projection in his armour. But it’s much better then him being a hypocrite like Lex who hated aliens and then became an Apex, although Lex did eventually stay true to his colour, and one could make a case he didn’t lose anything since apex’s are what humans were meant to be before being split in to Martians and humans. Bottomline he didn’t alter his DNA he didn’t look for an easy way out, he even still has platinum kryptonite that could make him kryptonian but doesn’t use it. Soo this path really isn’t that bad.

Make sense honestly, like as long as it's not full on Dr. Fate or even Zatanna level stuff; just keep it street.

Come again? Batman absolutely is a tech genius and physically gifted.

@gracetrack: not really he’s not a genius in the sense of latent potential he trained ridiculously hard both mentally and physically. He’s not gifted in the same way as say Mr. miracle or Wildcat. Who specialise in one area Batman is equally good at everything and it requires great effort to reach that level. You get what I mean?

I feel this goes to far but it’s whatever I guess. I prefer Batman to have an element of mysticism but full blown magic means he has literal super powers. This opens up potential for to much bull shit.

I don't mind him knowing a couple nifty counter-spells for specific situation, but something like an armor form is stupid.

@firstmanofsteei: Bruce Wayne is absolutely a logical-mathematical genius, and whether that’s through hard work or giftedness or a mix of both is irrelevant. Same goes for his physical prowess.

You seem to be confusing the issue. His problem at the moment isn’t one of intelligence or innate ability, it’s one of resources (or a lack thereof).

I much rather would have seen Bruce go the Karate Kid route of using ki/chi to boost his natural abilities. Seems to me that would also fit a lot better, seeing as it would sort of be a natural/logical progression of his extensive martial arts training. Imagine how sick that would have been to see Batman throw a Bat-shaped hadoken (a batoken? haha) at those dudes, for example.

As for him using magic, I don’t like it. 'Nuff said.

I know right. He literally owns a company that makes tech.

For sure. I mean, some might say "But he inherited his company" as if that makes a difference. It doesn't. There is an incredibly deep pool to draw from when it comes to super-science feats that Bruce Wayne has performed all on his own. He literally does it all the time. So again, the fact that he inherited his company is irrelevant.

Current writers don't respect his past anymore since Rebirth. It's one of the worst things they've done to Batman.

Agreed.

If it stays street and is only used occasionally, then fine.

I wouldn't say it was THAT bad, it's just DC trying new things with Batman to drag out the fact he's the only guy who pushes comics for them. Ofc you could argue this is slightly out of character considering he's never been a fan of magic, but I think Batman would at least try it out.

Making a weird mech out of it? Eh....

@princesscadenza: May I ask, why do you think it is something Snyder would do? To my knowledge, he has never even flirted with the idea of Batman (Bruce Wayne) using magic.

I’d be shocked if this were the first time he’s ever used magic to be honest. It makes sense for his character to dabble at least a bit, just enough to deal with a supernatural threat on his own.

That said, I do agree that this is a bit over the top. Batman shouldn’t have full blown magic powers.

@princesscadenza: I mean, those weren’t Batman. Those were evil alternate reality versions of Batman. Beyond that, neither of those things you mentioned had anything to do with magic, to the best of recollection. The evil wizard Batman (also not the real Batman) from Death Metal is about the only thing I can think of.

@princesscadenza: Sure, I get that. It’s just that the way you originally worded it sounded like you would expect Snyder to give him magical powers specifically, even though he has never even teased that possibility before when it comes to mainstream Batman. The stuff happening in the Death Metal book is a bit “far out there” even by Snyder’s standards. And the reason he’s going all out and throwing caution to the wind there is because it’s supposedly his last big DC story, and it’s a Crisis-level event.

I always assumed Batman new at least one spell from Zatara but he didn’t stay to study because he learned what he came to Zatara for.
