This was the house that Fear built.

Introduction

Fear's a type of villain who started mega lame (basically a proto Hush, a old friend of Matt that wants revenge) but thanks to a great writer, was able to make a pretty damn good comeback, becoming a legitimately threatening villain who ruined Matt's life and sowed the seeds for his run as Hand leader.

I'm doing this Fear over the other four for a number of reasons-

1. This version of Fear has more feats than the rest of them.

2. This one is the coolest out of a pretty tame run of Fear's.

That being said, the feats will be separated to three parts- physical capability, fear gas, and miscellaneous.

Physical Capability

Counters and grapples a slightly weakened Matt charging at him, and is strong enough to maintain a grip that he can't escape from. (Daredevil #91)

Dazes Matt with a punch and knocks him down. (Daredevil #91)

Elbows and punches Matt from a disadvantageous position. (Daredevil #105)

Matt is countered and knocked out by Fear's strike. (Daredevil #91)

Judo flips Matt into a chimney that cracks from the force. Note that Matt compliments his training. (Daredevil #105)

Fodderized three men who were considered to be some of the best combat trainers in the country, dodging and parrying their blows with ease, and knocking some of them out with very few strikes and grapples. (Daredevil #102)

Takes a shot from Matt well, tags him with fear gas mid fight (Daredevil #375)

Fear Gas

A gas pellet makes Matt lose control of his body and is unable to think correctly, crashing into a window. (Daredevil #90)

Databook on Fear, his compounds, and gear. (Handbook of the Marvel Universe Daredevil 2004)

Gas makes Matt go uncontrollable in terms of muscular reflexes and needs to be saved by Widow. (Daredevil #91)

Uses gas to incapacitate some dudes (Daredevil #366)

Variant of Fear's gas makes Matt weakened and unable to fight against Ox. (Daredevil #99)

Is taken out by Cranson's fear gun and is unable to defend himself. (Daredevil #91)

Fear's new and improved gas drives Matt through a massive trip where he sees, hears, and is fully fighting in extreme hallucinations. This lasts for a while, and the aftereffects stay for days. (Daredevil #100)

Using his pheromones created through extended exposure to his chemicals, Fear is able to control a entire prison and make anyone do what he wants. (Daredevil #105)

Miscellaneous

Arms a bomb that blows up the top of a building. (Daredevil #100)

Has blades hidden in his gauntlets, lacks any fear due to chemicals and is immune to his own toxin. (Daredevil #105)

Uses a gas canister jetpack to fly between buildings. (Daredevil #91)

Uses this gas jetpack to fly out of a window. (Daredevil #375)

Conclusion

Fear's a fun character who earned a great amount of depth over the years.

Sadly, Cranson's Fear has essentially been replaced by another Fear, who frankly isn't as interesting or as cool as he was. It's a shame really, considering he was really starting to get interesting with his characterisation, plus the fact he was gaining new and more lethal abilities. Really sucks to see what they wasted with him.
