Im relatively new, i have a basic understanding of the rules and how it works so im not a complete lost cause. I just dont know how to find a DM and a group to play with without invading on them.
My best advice is to find a game store next to you a see if they have D&D encounters. This website may help you finding a store next to you that organizes d&d encounters.
When I was in high school ages ago, I went to my local bookstore/comic store/table-top game store which sold D&D and left a tag on the shelf with my phone number and interests. I got a call and got into a number of games in high school and college that way. Met some really good friends playing, too.
