Sharing power
This series is rapidly becoming one of contrasts for me. I came to it originally to introduce myself for the first time to Amethyst, a character that I had been familiar with but having never read a whole lot of stories featuring her. Thus far the stories involving Amethyst have been pretty fun, but the surprise in this series has been the backup stories with Beowulf, set in a post-apocalyptic world. The Amethyst part of this particular issue is a little dry. There are some decent moments where the character shows some growth which is nice, but more of the story is based on the politics between the various houses of Gemworld which has been relatively boring thus far. The backup story though is where the best of this issue lies, as really it is so stylized and interesting and changes pace so easily that it is hard to guess what will come next. I am mostly changing outlook on this series as the backup is becoming of more interest to me. That the featured material is still pretty fun is a bonus though.
