As one of the Issei or “first generation”, a young, enterprising, Nishimura Aiko, set sail in 1870 to visit North America after the Meiji Restoration had introduced Japanese culture to more Western influences. Not long after his arrival, however, his belongings were stolen as his travelling party were attacked by bandits, and many were left for dead. He struggled to survive, and dealt firsthand with the bitter taste of prejudice (including his own), as he found himself working slave wages alongside Chinese immigrants for continued railroad production. After a year of this horrid treatment, a proud, defiant, Aiko noticed his belongings in the possession of the rail baron as his ranch hands were showing off. Having heard tales of great Western lawmen, he fashioned the identity of the Ronin Ranger and set out to exact revenge upon those who dishonored him, retrieve his family belongings, and bring justice for those whom he’d grown to befriend. After having made a name for himself as an honorable, if mysterious, defender of the downtrodden, he found himself teaming with the Empyrean Command as they travelled through his time period. He continued to struggle against prejudice throughout his days, but his strong, budding family managed to prevail despite it all.
In the modern day, an established, "by the book" Texas Ranger, Masato "Mac" Nishimura knew nothing of the vigilante exploits of his ancestors. That is, until he found the preserved outfit of the Ronin Ranger amongst some family heirlooms shipped to him from California. Upon touching the uniform, he received a vision, describing how a local politician used him to organise police against minorities, dig up dirt on his rivals, and distract from his wrongdoing, all the while having felt that he owned him. Masato investigated and was stunned to find out how easily he was mislead. He reforged some of the classic weaponry, and set out to stop the corruption and defend the innocent from both sides of the law...
