Beyond Batman 3

Right out of the gate, I have to say that this issue was fantastic. Before today I didn't even know who Inque was. If she was in the cartoon then I completely forgot about her but after today she has become unforgettable. The issue starts out with Batman (McGinnis) attempting to stop her from stealing, "A trigger that can be adapted  from any weapon, from hand fired to remote with unlimited range...". She gets away and that's where a traditional comic story ends and a great one begins. We find t...

A must buy 0

My knowledge of the DC Universe is limited compared to that of the Marvelverse but I do know a quality story when I read it.  Flashpoint #2 was, to quote Good Old J.R., restaurant quality all the way. I'm going to spare you a  straight recap of the actual story because I think everyone should run out and pick up this book. If you liked issue #1, then you'll love #2 and if #1 left you with a feeling of, "Eh...." then still go out and issue #2! I'm a guy whose extensive knowledge of The Flash span...

A Solid Issue 1

This week's issue of Amazing Spider-Man is a very solid addition to a fairly decent year. Our adventure starts with Anti-Venom stopping a cocaine shipment and in the process learns that there is a something these men fear greater than him. Then our issue jumps to Peter and Carlie in bed, we learn today is a significant day for Peter, he's getting his first science paper published in the "American Science Journal". He gives the good news to Aunt May who is passing out a create full of issues to a...

Good Riddance 1

I very, very happy that this is the last issue of the "Shed" story arch. From the beginning, I have been consistently disappointed by both the art and the story. I could go on for days why I hate reading anything that Chris Bachalo is attached to, but I won't. I'm happy I won't have to read word balloons that mainly consist of, "Stupid Monkey brain" or the gem, "Connorssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss". I would rate this book higher (because it's fina...

My Favorite Issue of Spider-Man 0

When you think of great issues of Amazing Spider-Man, the usual ones like The Night Gwen Stacy Died, Spider-Man No More and How Green Was My Goblin pop up. While these stories do deserve all the accolades they get, there are some stories that are equally good, but don't get the recognition that they deserve. This is where issue #271 comes in. It gets glossed over in the clutter of some early 1980s Spider-Man junk but it is truly a gem of a book. The art is from Ron Frenz, which is a guarantee th...

A Surprising Read. 0

Last Friday I was perusing my local comic shop and came across this book. I was surprised that a new Spider-Man title was released without me knowing (I usually have my finger on the pulse of new Spidey), but it was a great find. Pat Olliffe's art is always great. The way he draws Spidey is very distinct, but very classic too. It almost feels like an extension of a 1980s Ron Frenz, with Peter having thin facial features and a very lithe frame. The story itself is very entertaining, almost to the...
