My Top 10 Favorite comics of 2009

My top ten list for favorite comics of 2009

The dialog from Tony at the start of this issue was simply great. Though I have never been a big fan of Iron Man in the comics, this series at a whole has drawn in me great. This issue in particular was a great read from start to finish.

Though there are way too many Avengers books these days, Dark Avengers has been a good read throughout the year. The first issue makes my list, as it was great seeing the formation of this newer evil team of Avengers.

You'll see a few more deadpool issues here on my list, as he is my 2nd favorite character in Marvel comics. Now then, this issue gets the 7th spot cause it was just amazing. Not to mention I was luckly enough to snag a copy of it at the local comics shop before they got sold out and couldn't order any more in. To put things simple:

Deadpool reality TV a cast of zany characters = awesome

Deadpool is my second favorite and Punisher is DA MAN at #1 in my mind when it comes to Marvel. Rick Remender was put in charge of this series and has done something that very few have managed to do... Make a great 616 Punisher series [well maybe not anymore with FrakenCastle >>]. Anyways, this issue started off great with Frank going up against the likes of The Sentry after trying to assassinate Norman Osborn.

Ok, Zombies are WAAAAAAY overused these days. We get them far too much in video games, movies, and of course comics. Now I have personally enjoyed the marvel zombies run (especially the 3rd series staring Machine Man), but Marvel Zombies Return: Spider-Man was just epic. The tale was just so dark, so gory, so very awesome. That last scene too? That was simply Amazing.

  • #5 so since BND, spidy hasn't been all that great... However, since the American Son arc, there has been a great improvement. Especially in some latest issues where we have a lot of the old spidy foes coming back [Electro, sandman, etc]. Now this issue makes it into my top 10 cause I am a really big Black Cat fan. The "sexual" banter between these two in this issue (and issue 607) was just so down right hilarious. I really hope we'll be seeing more of Cat as the Gauntlet goes on...

  • #4 I'll leave my reason for this issue in 3 simple words: Fantomex is Awesome

  • #3 I've collected each of the deadpool books and I thought for sure I would include more then just 2 issues on my list, but alas this will be the final Deadpool mention in my top ten. [Though issues that follow this one are awesome as well]. Anyways... Deadpool as a pirate, nuff said. The cover art as well is a gem and a collector's dream.

  • #2 HOLY FIRE IN FLAMES BATMAN! This issue was just so damn shocking and diffidently holds one of the top 10 most shocking Punisher moments ever. I'll not say anything in case to spoil the surprise, but the Hood makes Frank do something that will very much scar the Punisher for years to come... That is until what happens in my #1 choice for the year...

  • #1 The variant covers may have spoiled the surprise a bit, but Dark Reign: The List: Punisher was still very shocking and one hell of a roller coaster ride. With amazing art work and an epic story, this was by far the best of the "The List" issues; why? Cause it held up to being life changing for the character. The other issues saw the good guys winning out against Osborn [minus the Avengers one where Clint got captured], but this issue... Osborn Won... He went out and did what he had in mind.... He killed The Punisher. Bare in mind though, it took a few helicarriers worth of HAMMER agents and the B@st@rd son of Wolverine to do it. The final moments were truly emotional and great. Frank was doomed, yet the crazy son of a gun just kept on fighting... He didn't even show any signs of fear when Daken came in for the final blow... I'll even admit to shedding a few tears for poor Frank here in his last moments....

However, as we all know... Frank has gotten stitched back together by Morbius and is now a Frakenstien-ish monster of sorts. I don't really like the idea and hope he somehow returns back to normal... Buy anyways, I can't wait for Punisher vs Daken round 2... and this time, I'm sure Frank will be ready for Wolvie jr.
