Hellpores were dark spherical machines that were constructed on Apokolips and were able to burn a hole into a planet's core in order to create a Firepit. Thus, they were able devastate entire worlds from their use with five hundred of such machines being within Darkseid's armory where an encryption (U.R> Seven X.L.L. 009) in order to ensure they did not detonate. Batman managed to gather some intelligence on these machines. When Supergirl was captured by Darkseid, Batman along with Superman, Wonder Woman and Big Barda went to Apokolips to rescue her. Once there, Batman went into the armory where he primed the Hellspores where he threatened to detonate them unless Darkseid agreed to release Kara Zor-El and never harm her again which he ultimately agreed rather than risk Apokolips being destroyed.
