Wade Wilson, a.k.a. Deadpool may have a movie on the way, but his time in the comics -- at least in the 616 universe -- is coming to an end. Well, for now. Announced via Nerdist, his current series will end with issue #250 (which is really #45 in that specific volume) and it'll also mean the death of Deadpool. It'll be a whopping 96 pages and features a ton of talent. Oh, and Wade will get his hands on the Infinity Gauntlet. That should be... interesting. Here's the cover and solicit.

    No Caption Provided

    DEADPOOL #250 (A.K.A. issue #45)

Written by GERRY DUGGAN, BRIAN POSEHN, BEN ACKER, BEN BLACKER, NICK GIOVANETTI, PAUL SCHEER, JASON MANTZOUKAS, MIKE DRUCKER, & MORE

Penciled by MIKE HAWTHORNE, SCOTT KOBLISH, & MORE

    Cover by SCOTT KOBLISH

    FINAL ISSUE!

That’s right—if you add together all the Deadpool series (creatively) issue 45 is the big 250th issue of Deadpool! What better way to celebrate than to end the series? In our over-sized main story, ULTIMATUM comes at Deadpool for revenge, so he has no choice but to take them on—ALL OF THEM. Then, in an Infinity Gauntlet crossover, what would Deadpool do if he got the six gems from Thanos? Plus: a slew of stories showcasing Deadpool’s closest friends and allies by special guest writers! Also, SPOILER: Deadpool dies at the end of the issue.

During an interview with Nerdist, series co-writer Gerry Duggan says they've been building up to this since their very first issue with Wade. "And it will absolutely feel – it will feel, I hope, readers will think that this is an appropriate end for this Deadpool." While some may jump to conclusions and think this is a gimmick or cash grab, Duggan says they're doing it because it "makes sense." As for Wade's death, Duggan says it make may a reader's head explode. Does that comment make anyone else think of SUICIDE KINGS? No? Okay, moving on. This may be sad news for fans of the title and character (we'll form a support group), but the writer says it'll still be a good time, despite the dark outcome. "Even the most horrible things that we’ve done to him, you know, are still fun. I hope. I think. This is definitely a blunt, over-sized celebration of that."

Well, it was fun while it lasted, right? And who knows how long it'll be until he comes back? This would also be a neat opportunity to bring Agent X back into the spotlight. Just saying. Anyway, DEADPOOL #250 goes on sale this April. Fingers crossed Marvel will release an omnibus of Duggan and Brian Posehn's volume; it certainly deserves one.

It's almost like they're more with concerned doing things to their series that will make them a quick buck rather than keeping things consistent.

I am beyond sick of character deaths (especially at Marvel). They have no impact anymore so I hate that these companies (again, especially Marvel) feel the need to kill off characters for cheap sales spikes. It's the same thing they did with Wolverine and now they are looking to cash in even more by making a ton of spin-offs and a $3.99 weekly. This is ridiculous. I'm not even a giant Deadpool fan and this still annoys me. Like everyone else is saying, he will be back by the time his movie comes out. I hate sounding like an angry fanboy or something but death in comics is sooooo cliche that it very rarely adds anything to the narrative and ultimately gets undone in a year with some stupid and equally cliche explanation.

I don't see how cancelling comics of characters Marvel doesn't have the film rights to hurts the other guys. Marvel is the one not making money on the books, and I'm still going to see the Deadpool movie.

There will obviously be a deadpool of some kind somewhere doing deadpool things so to see Wade go will be sad as a comic fan but like in real life at some point a character may very well face death. Let's hope they do it well and the Merc with a mouth meets his death with a katana in one hand and a taco in the other.

The thing is, if they are trying to kill off characters to which they do not own the movie rights, then they will not be bringing him back in time for his movie... That would just promote the movie.

This news makes me sad. These writers know Deadpool and are up there with Joe Kelly.

Dont care about Deadpool but you are run out of ideias stop putting characthers in several books and then kill the characthers or maybe showcase new characthers or older characthers that arent on spotlight. But i will be happy to see that Deadpool is appearing on comics for a while.

Even though I dislike Deadpool, this is one of the reasons why I stopped reading Marvel's current comics last year. Needless character deaths that will inevitably be reversed eventually.

Terrible. Marvel needs a major reboot. We have lost so many cool people, Jean Grey, Ms. Marvel, Wolverine and now Deadpool? At least with a reboot there's a better chance for a new DC vs. Marvel crossover.

I hope this leads to a team up called "Wolverine and Deadpool - IN HELL". Logan has already been to hell and would probably go back. Wade is most certainly damned.
