Based on the animated series, this comic is filling in the gaps in between episodes.
The Good
Comics based on animated series don't always hold a lot of weight. So far, this one is proving to give us further insight into events from the show. The zero issue took place immediately after the the two part opener that dealt with the formation of the team. This issue shows us what happens after the kids are shown their new base of operations. From the following episode we know that Superboy and Miss Martian were the only ones that would be living in Mount Justice but here, we get to see a little of how they'll get settled in. There's also a bit of a mystery and the threat of danger before the issue ends. The cliffhanger will make you want to know what happens next.
The Bad
Art Baltazar and Franco capture the feel of the characters from the show. This felt like it could have been an extension of an actual episode. The art by MIke Norton was good as well but there were a couple moments that felt a little inconsistent. I do have to say that even I was a little confused by the appearance of a certain character in this issue. Either the character has a new (old?) look and haircut (which could be the case for this animated universe) or the character is a version from another alternate dimension. I wouldn't think that would be the case since this is based on the show and aimed for all age readers. Maybe I'm just reading too much into this.
The Verdict
Young Justice is a really good show but I wouldn't say it was perfect. The same goes for this issue. I did really enjoy the zero issue showing Kid Flash taking Superboy home and trying to get him acclimated to society. While this issue does take place between episodes of the show and gives us a little more insight, it felt too much like a set up issue. We know something is going on and the big adventure is about to happen. There's just not a lot of action taking place here. This is a series that fans of the show will want to check out to see what happens in between issues.
