Who the F#$! are the Young Avengers

This is a review for Young Avengers 1-6. Initially when I had heard of the Young Avengers I assumed that they were like Marvel's counterpart to the Teen Titans, a group of former sidekicks. However, I was surprised to learn this wasnt the case and am really glad this wasn't the case. This story begins with people wondering who exactly the Young Avengers are and if they are affiliated with the actual Avengers. Jessica Jones, working for the Daily Buggle, is tasked with finding out more information. She meets up with Iron Man and Captain America who tell her that they arent affiliated with them and together they try to track them down. It is revealed that the Young Avengers have come together to fight an upcoming threat. I really dont want to reveal to much more about the plot in fear of spoilers. There was a really key reveal in the book that I didnt see coming at all and was really shocking and engaging for me. One of the key aspects of the book is the question of whether or not its right for these kids to be out risking their lives as it is very dangerous. Its a really important question when dealing with teen superheroes and I really like how this comic deals with that. Another great thing about this comic is the characters. All these characters could have ended up as generic second rate versions of their originals and yet all of them are unique and almost entirely independent. Hulkling isnt just a teen Hulk and Iron Lad isnt just a teen Iron Man. All had unique pasts or pasts still shrouded in mystery which I really liked. It also had some really amazing character interactions. Speaking of Iron Lad, I really liked him and the difficult situation he was put into. Towards the climax when it came to him having to make a decision my eyes actually started to water which almost never happens when reading comics. Overall, I absolutely loved this comic and want to read more Young Avengers like it. I would highly recommend this series.
