Reported yesterday, it was announced that the Y: THE LAST MAN feature film, which had been stuck in pre-production hell for a better part of a decade, was no longer moving forward. There was a lot of mystery and rumors surrounding the project, and at one point, it was even rumored that Shia LaBeouf would be playing the pivotal role of Yorick Brown. Y: THE LAST MAN artist Pia Guerra cleared up a few things on her Twitter page today about what's happening to the rights of the book.

Y: THE LAST MAN is about the story of Yorick Brown and his monkey, Ampersand, the two last males on the planet. Yorick searches the world for his fiance, and the world searches for him, for numerous reasons. It his one of comics most highly praised series.

This is the first time in a decade that Pia Guerra and writer Brian K Vaughan have retained the rights of the beloved Vertigo series. While it's a bummer that we won't see this story on the big screen, many fans are breathing a sigh of relief because Yorick Brown's story may just be a bit too big to cram into a two hour movie.

Many fans were hoping, if anything, to see this play out as television series, as it would be the best way to translate this book to screen. As of right now, there are no plans for the story, but it's refreshing to see the creative team hold the rights again.

I think this is one of the few series that could be translated to a 2 hour movie quite well.

I don't feel bad that the movie wasn't made since I didn't believe a movie can do the comic justice.

I love Y: The Last Man. And a Comic Series (if done right) could be really cool.

At least we don't get to see Shia LaBeouf as YB. That's some sort of relief, too.

I'm rather happy about this. I was a bit leery of Shia playing the lead. I would rather this turn into a TV series on HBO or AMC and take a few years to really tell the story correctly.

We have freakin Peggy Carter and Supergirl getting a show, but not this?? HBO, AMC, someone, make this into a tv series, not a movie.

I'm cool with this movie being cancelled. The story behind it sounds 1 dimensional anyway. The only boy left in existence surrounded by women who want him dead rather procreate. Plus the initial casting included Shia LeBoeuf. If that's still on the table then all the more reason to cancel the movie.

I want this as an HBO series right now.

Good for them. It should definitely be picked up by some network. It's such a great story and should be easily adaptable with even a limited budget. I didn't even know the movie deal was a thing, but if Shia Laboof was involved at all it would have been terrible.

so you never read the book? You should it's much more than what you're assuming that it is and it's one of the best comics ever made
