Intriguing Beginning
This would be a much better series without the proliferation of (to the point of being ubiquitous) vulgar language. Not everyone talks like this, nor would a mass gendercide turn everyone into sailor mouths. Hopefully it will get better as the series progresses - it would be a shame for such an interesting concept to be marred throughout by its commitment to being coarse. The many subplots and layers are fairly intriguing: Agent 355's original quest with this mysterious amulet/necklace is more interesting than the main idea of the series (what would happen to the last man alive?). I trust that more will be made of this as the books continue. Hero's descent into Amazon-thinking is disappointing this early in, but there may be some slight hope for her now that Victoria is (thankfully) out of the way (Yorick's comment that they grew up into their names doesn't seem to apply to Hero, since she is more like the wrongfully slandered Hero than the actual Hero from Much Ado About Nothing). Ampersand is probably the most interesting character thus far. I want to see where these stories go and if Yorick and Beth ever reunite happily...but I'm not holding my breath.
