So here mine.
So there my top 5 X-Ladies and X-Males. Who are yours ?
Team » X-Men appears in 13417 issues.
@time: do you mean female X-men and male X-men, or just any X-related characters?
@oldnightcrawler: It can be any X-Men characters. Please just list your 5 X-ladies and your top 5 X-males.

mm, well that actually makes it harder to narrow down..
but I guess if I had to go with just 5, it would be Storm, Kitty, Emma, Magik, and Mystique, in no particular order. If I were going with just X-men, I would've had to give Mystique's spot to Rogue, Rachel, or maybe Jubilee, but of all characters of all versions of all X-men stories I've seen, I'd say these five are the most versatile and compelling overall.
Narrowing down the guys to 5 is only harder because the two most important characters to the X-men's origin are Xavier and Magneto, who are both guys, both integral to the X-men's origin, and both two of the most consistently interesting characters. I can't even justify counting one without the other, really, so I guess it's them, Cyclops, Wolverine, and Nightcrawler.
..though, if any of these characters were off the table, it would be very close between Beast, Colossus, and probably Quire.
Hmm. X-MEN
Females- Jean Grey, Rogue, Kitty, Emma Frost and Rachel Grey.... (I'm trying to limit my shameless promotion of SURGE!!! from the new X-men) but yea that was very hard.
Males- Xavier, Cyclops, Wolverine, Gambit, And Jamie Maddox just to get him in the discussion....I don't think any other Xbook has had as long a run as X - Factor did with him and that central cast.
@koays: Madrox was another character I was considering, but to me he's almost more of a central character in his own right than he's really an X-man character, if you know what I mean.

I was thinking along those lines, comparing him almost to Deadpool in how established he is being written in or around X-men/mutant stuff. But i figure he doesnt transcend the X-Men or their concepts enough since X-Factor pretty much dealt with fall out from big X-arcs.
If anything to me he's sort of made it into or past the league of characters like Havok, Iceman and Beast without really leaving that "X-Men world" bubble.

mm.. but unlike Beast, Iceman, or Havok, he was never really a classic X-men character to begin with. When I think of characters who transcend the X-men, I tend to think of characters who were central in the X-men first, and then moved beyond (like Beast, QS & SW, or Wolverine), whereas Madrox was never really on the X-men or a central character to begin with. Other than his brief stint on the Muir Island X-Men, he's never even been an X-man, let alone had anything to do with either the school or Xavier's dream.
He worked for Moira, then worked for the government, then worked for everyone but the X-men (seriously, when he sent dupes out to gather experience, couldn't he have had one dupe trained by the X-men?), and then started X-factor 3. Really, he's always just been his own character.

Cool you liked the same people I do.
@time: These are the male and female X-men I think are the most popular. I think both Gambit and Kurt are more popular than Cyclops. Kurt hasn't been around up until recently and Gambit has not been focused on much in major x-titles in years, but I still think both are more liked by the masses than Cyclops despite him being heavily focused on in the last 6 - 7 years. As far as my favorites, if that is what you are looking for, my list is a little different then:
Favorite Female X-Men
Favorite Male X-Men
Formatting on CV is weird (don't usually do all pic posts).
Anyway, mine above were
Females
Honorable mentions: Mystique and Karma
Males
Honorable mentions: Rictor and Shatterstar
@thunderbolt30: Well I think on comic vine Cyclops is more popular that kurt and gambit.
@selina_sublime: Nice picture of Emma Frost. Do you know who the artists is ?

Sorry to disappoint you, but he is more popular everywhere.

He's his own character sure. But he got his roots in X-Men related titles and had his most success in an X-Men related title. And he was a major part of the X-Men world between Messiah Complex and 2nd Coming. Even within the the context of the story he's more an X-Man then a Avenger or anything else.
But i guess it goes back to your original post of whether they must be explicitly X-Men or X-related characters.
@avenger85: To be fair, I just think it's on comic vine. Wolverine more known and most people associated the X-Men with Wolverine.

His popularity outside of comicvine has been increasing steadily. There's no doubting that. Even among mainstream fans.

mm, well his roots are as a quirky background character (from Fantastic 4, originally) who wasn't really developed until he joined X-factor 2 (which was basically the replacement for Freedom Force) and beyond that became the main character of his own team (X-factor 3). He's certainly more of an X-men character than he is an Avenger, no doubt, but I don't see him actually identifying as an X-man, being central to their story, or even them being central to his.
I'd put him more with characters like Captain Britain, Deadpool, Arcade, or most of Alpha Flight, as a character whose story conveniently overlaps with the X-men more than he's an X-men character especially.
but, yeah; it's really just splitting hairs.
@selina_sublime: Nice picture of Emma Frost. Do you know who the artists is ?
I was going to ask this too; is it from a comic?
Males:
1. Wolverine
2. Gambit
3. Cyclops
4. Nightcrawler
5. Colossus
Women:
1. Emma Frost
2. Pyslocke
3. Rogue
4. Jubilee
5. Kitty Pryde
@thunderbolt30: Well I think on comic vine Cyclops is more popular that kurt and gambit.
On this site that's probably true. I think Scott is a popular character over all. On another site I frequent I don't think he is as liked as other big name X-Men, including Kurt and Remy. The timing of your poll is interesting. CBR is just finishing their annual Marvel's top 100 characters (all fan voted). I think Scott will make the top 10 but will likely be below both Kurt and Gambit. Either way I do agree with you about his popularity on CV.
Ughhhhh... So difficult... :(
So, I guess, the girls would be:-
- Rouge.
- Jean.
- Shadowcat.
- Psylocke.
- X-23 (she's just too cute not to include).
Guys...
- Cyclops - undoubtedly.
- Iceman.
- Cable.
- Hellion.
- Nightcrawler.
That was actually somehow even harder than I expected! :O

Cool another person who like Rogue and Jean grey.
@time: Of course! Jean is my favourite female character, she's perfect! And Rogue's so complex. :) I can't see how people don't like them. :D

There both great characters. I still can't believe the way Marvel has treated them. They have Rogue leave X-Men legacy a series center around her, just so Rick Remender can kill her off in that stupid series Uncanny Avengers. Then they leave the real Jean Grey to rot in the white room, after destroying her marriage with Scott Summers. Marvel are so stupid.
Saying that I have enjoy Teen Jean Grey. How you about you ? Have you enjoy Jean Grey being back, even though it's not the real Jean Grey.

That's interesting, It will be interest to see that. Comic vine also has its own a ranking system for X-Men characters and ranking system for comic characters. I just need to finish off working out the points. I guess we will see if Kurt and Gambit are more popular than Cyclops on comic vine.
And I've just realised I'm a bigger fan of Magneto's children than I am the man himself.
these are some great picks.
X-men 1.cyclops, 2. wolverine, 3.gambit, 4. magneto, and 5 nightcrawler
X-Women 1. jean grey, 2 storm, 3 magik, 4 rogue and 5 kitty or pyslocke
The all mighty phoenix has spoken!!!!! plus its going to be hard to calulate, good luck with it though :)
X-Women
X-Men
Havok, really??? I didnt think anyone liked him and now hes captain america's tool, lol. But i guess he is the more "normal" summers brother
X-men 1.cyclops, 2. wolverine, 3.gambit, 4. magneto, and 5 nightcrawler

Thanks for taking part. It should be easy to work out, it's not like my threads, A ranking system for characters. Those ones are tough.
X-Women
X-Men
Thanks for taking part.
oh i thought this was a ranking system, lol. oops. But its nice to know who likes what character. I'm surprised to see Magneto becoming popular, no wonder he got his own book.:) Also i liked Magneto ever since matt fraction turned him into an x-men and now cyclops even trusts him now.

This is not like other threads, that was about points. This is to see which X-characters people like the most. I will have to work it out sooner or later.
Cyclops
Wolverine
Beast
Prof X
Magneto
Jean Grey
Rogue
Jubilee
Boom Boom
Cuckoos (I count as one character.)
The Cuckoos count, it's nice to see Boom Boom in someone top 5. She really cool character, I hope her and Domino appear in someone esle top five
No one is going to pick hope summers, i guess shes the least favorite character now in x-men. Maybe i should make a new thread of who is your least favorite character
Cyclops
Wolverine
Beast

Magneto
Jean Grey
Rogue
Jubilee
Boom Boom

I like Hope Summers, but she wouldn't make my top 10 X-ladies. My top 20 yes.
