I counted over 23 new mutants, way to much if you ask me.
Over the years, there has been too many mutants in comics, to many mutants in utopia and just wondering how many of you prefer it that way. How many of you prefer poor character development, too many appearances from new mutants and there has been a lot of bad stories written by the writers.. I prefer it years ago, they focus on a fewer mutants, like in 90's and 80's, where the older mutants had a spoltight. There were better stories, better character development, better teams and come to think about it, there were better villians to, back then. I am just wondering what do you prefer the older or newer mutants? Who should really be in the spotlight?
X-Men
Team » X-Men appears in 13416 issues.
The X-Men are a superhero team of mutants founded by Professor Charles Xavier. They are dedicated to helping fellow mutants and sworn to protect a world that fears and hates them.
What do you prefer? Older or New Charcaters
Old or new is not really important to me as long as the character is interesting. I'm mostly sick of Jean Grey and Prof. X due to overexposure but I still like Gambit and Storm for example. From the newer mutants I could hardly care less about X-23 or Armor but I want Frenzy, Surge and especially Dust to get some more spotlight. Really depends on the character for me, not the age of said character.
I agree with Risky, it's not whether I prefer old or new characters, but the inviduals specifically. Like I love Jubilee but also love Pixie.
Cyclops + Emma are my favourites. They're far and beyond my favourite X-Men characters, followed by Colossus, Kitty, Hellion, Rogue, Magneto, Mr Sinister and X-23. So I suppose I prefer the older characters on average.

OMG, why don't you care for Armor? Going off of what I read of her in Astonishing years ago, I find her to be fascinating!
But I agree nonetheless, provided the old already established characters aren't forgotten, I could read an interesting new character everyday.
Whatever happened to Greymalkin? He completely slipped my mind!

I prefer the 90s with all the different teams and different books. Not a million borks with cyclops as the one leader
Everyone says that, but he's really only lead of 2 and a half (I say half because Astonishing X-Men comes out 4 times a year, if that). X-Men Legacy is Rogue centric, X-Force is Wolverine and co, X-Factor (The best X-Book, buy it now if you are not) is Madrox and co, which leaves Scott with Uncanny and the Adjectiveless one. Did I forget a book?
The thing about X-Factor, the writing is so good, and you spend so much time with that core team, that you almost have to force yourself not to like one person.
both points get my voteX-Factor (The best X-Book, buy it now if you are not)

Generation Hope, and technically Alpha Flight,
but it's clearly in no way essential to an X-Universe reader and more caters to fans of AF itself.
It is kind of the same as if you had asked me if I prefer the company of my old childhood friends or my more recent friends. The old friends hold a special place in my heart and I most certainly enjoy the company but with the newer friends, chances are I am going to have more fun with them.
I think older characters should help shepherd newer characters into relevance.
For example, when "dream lineup" threads are done, I am bored by repeat lineups of iconic or fan-favorite eras but I also am not enthused by lineups with characters who have no ties to major X-Men continuity, no matter how cool a character design or concept may be.
what i hate is how quick they toss aside people, like i love iceman, but the writers still treat him like a twerp, i love rockslide and anole, and their friendship.
Both, it's about the character, not whether they're new or not. There are lame older characters and lame new characters.

From the list I have made, Not one of those characters are lame. I think there too many new characters and they don't compare to the old characters on any level. I prefer the old ones, there much better and have more to offered the X-Men.
I agree,i like both, but the iconic characters will always have a special place in my heart.I don't know...you know some people just make it or break it,and alot of the X-men older members and characters define who the X-men are and will always be more of a key part than the newer ones..usually.From the list I have made, Not one of those characters are lame. Legendary members all the way
He's crass, insensitive, blunt, narrow-minded and yet he's an excellent X-Man. He can be insulting and insensitive to his friends while in the same moment being ferociously loyal and protective of them.
He told Pixie and Anole that Cyclops promoted them to the X-Men team when he (Rockslide) told Cyclops that if there wasn't enough room on the X-Men for Anole and Pixie, he'd quit and make room for them.... And he immediately followed the announcement with, "Nerds..."
Anole, on the other hand is sensitive, compassionate, studious and has the potential to be a great leader. He's also gay. And yet he and Rockslide are best friends. How kewl is that? They should hate each other, but they end up being best friends. The story with these two in Nation X is well worth the read.
The whole rivalry between the Hellions and the New Mutants was interesting. We saw them acting as 'teenagers' being immature and caring about non-important things the way teenagers do, but we got to see them grow/mature past that and come to care for each other.
The original X-Men were a well knit unit from the get go, the younger X-Men had to work through rivalries and different perspectives on life.
Their personalities are so different, almost opposing, and yet they've blended together so well.... and it's been fun watching them...

That's good for you. They have offered more to the X-Men because they've been around for longer, pretty invalid point.
I prefer the older characters since they were first characters that ever gained and maintained my interest. Some of the new characters are cool but I just don't find them as interesting as the 80's and 90's mutants.
