How would modern X-Men stories fare without mutant extinction arcs?

    Anyone else miss
    Anyone else miss "Unstoppable"?

I mean, I'm liking Rosenberg's solo work on the current Uncanny X-Men volume after X-Man biggity biggity bounced nearly every X-Men member from existence but man, mutant extinction arcs are just getting stale at this point.

They would be great.....as long as they picked a plot to rally the franchise around.

If they said the enemy of mutant kind was global Politics, or Magneto was making another play, or Sinister was cloning everyone, or the X-Men were expanding their operation globally, or Vulcan and the Shiar were looking for revenge, or a new enemy was uniting mutants under his umbrella, Hell they could just do a plot where someone is threatening to whipe out all humans instead of mutants and the X-Men are the only ones who know about it and need to stop it.

frick a new generation of mutant heroes with no ties to the X-Men, tries to replace the x-men using dirty tactics and exposing all their dirty laundry. BOOM PR nightmare story arc.

The thing is all the franchise needs is a sense of progress and were happy. We're as tired (really more tired) of the x-men being splintered and infighting as we are of all the mutants dying.

Right now it works, because even though their is a mutant cure, it's not REALLY that important to the story right now. It hasnt even been mentioned in more then 3 issues of the entire run. But what really helps is that we know when Age of X-Man is over we will have basically all of the X-Men back in one place for a moment and we'll have a chance to really unite the group and show them beating the odds by working together as the X-Men

    WHICH IS WHAT WE WANT.

This current Cure arc hasn't gone anywhere yet, but the story has been great. So Lets bring back all the X-Men and show them beat this thing.

The highlighted words are basically how I feel about everything in this franchise.

I imagine we will see change when the movies start being made...it likely won't be good change though.

It's kinda crazy that either everyone's a mutant or the few that are left are reviled the world over.

They built Genosha. Destroyed. Raised Utopia. Destroyed. Relocated to Limbo for...reasons. Almost annihilated.

Where could they go? The Savage Land? Madripoor? Muir Island? Otherworld? Join the Shi'ar Empire?

The X-Men really just need a good solid run of actual villains and villainous plots. Because the past few Extinction arcs the real threat wasn't whatever villain of the month was running around for however many issues, the looming threat was the ticking time bomb of extinction, either via M-day, M-pox, or getting M-poofed into Age-of-X-land.

The antagonistic characters were just meant to be those individual ticks of the clock, not the actual looming threat. Hopefully this is the last "extinction" arc for a while after Age of X is over and this latest "cure" is dealt with.

Give them some happiness writers. People are tired of gloom and doom events with the only joy being found in tie-ins or event issues.
