Make it an Oni mask. It's Japanese, which given how Wolverine is a samurai makes this all the more fitting. I mean the BASIC design could indeed work as this type of mask, as clearly demonstrated by this awesome Wolverine redesign I found!

The reason why Wolverine cannot wear a mask is because of copyright issues.

Wolverine's mask when you look at the sides is 2 batmans and that can cause copy right issues
