Everyone was so busy complaining about Bendis running things... Ever since he left, things took a huge dip storywise AND Art wise.... The only book that's okay is Amazing X-men (and the art is very 'hit or miss')
I want my XX-men back!
I want my X-teams to make sense and not just writers picking favorites characters.
Where are the good artists at????
Personally I thought Bendis' was overall 'alright' on Uncanny and just 'Meh' on All-New X-men. But ALL the new titles seem pretty lame...
Seriously... The only good comics out now are: Saga, The Private Eye, The Walking Dead, and Jem and the holograms.
Looking forward to A-Force tho...
X-Men
Team » X-Men appears in 13416 issues.
The X-Men are a superhero team of mutants founded by Professor Charles Xavier. They are dedicated to helping fellow mutants and sworn to protect a world that fears and hates them.
Are there any good x-titles out now...?
Did you make this thread simply to complain?
Here's a novel idea: why don't you actually read the new X-titles and decide for yourself if they're good or not? I know, there's a whopping 3 books at the moment, but I think you'll manage.
Also, Saga and Walking Dead are the only good comics coming out? Oh lord, spare me your off-handed, misinformed criticism.

All-New Wolverine has been acclaimed for both its writing and art. Sites like IGN even call it the best X-title on the shelves. Art from Lopez and Navarrot can certainly not be called anything but good
That being said the rest of the line needs some improvement though. Ibanez will be drawing #6 of EXM which is a huge improvement over Ramos and maybe that switch will be permanent. Bagley on ANXM is acceptable. Land on UXM is gross and there is sadly no switch in sight for that. EXM and ANXM could both be better writing wise but things just started and there is still time for improvement. If there is none in half a year I will definitely have a problem with that though.
@galerion: Ken Lashley will doing the art for Uncanny during the 'Apocalypse Wars' crossover.
Ramos is not bad. The problem with Land for most people is a ethical one, not visual. He might not be great visually, but I'm sure we have all put up with much worse.

Yeah I forgot about him but like with Ibanez on EXM we don't know if this will be permanent or not so Im still cautious.

His porn faces sadly rip me right out of everything Im reading. That's the problem that I have with him. If he wants to trace then that is fine. It's his job and reputation after all but how about not tracing porn at least?
Aside from X-23, I am up to speed on the X-titles and Battleworld/Warzone's snooze fest... Which is more than 3 titles. Thank you.
And it's Hypocritical to complain about another person's complaint. But you're entitled to your opinion even if it's wrong.
Imo, I am tired of the X-men being used to make the Avengers, Inhuman, or whoever look better... The T.mists are random and disruptive to a plot that had potential imo. Now we have to focus on the in humans for the rest of the year...
I am sooooo glad to hear Ramos is leaving. Maybe the art will improve the plot.
And Land can be good. I thought he was great in Phoenix Endsong.
I don't know I've been rereading old Excalibur.... That Alan Davis art work holds up well. So weird, so much fun.....
Lol to the OP... I feel your pain bro!!!!
I do think its a bit early to judge the new runs but honestly from the 1st few issues of Extra albeit a small sample size...I'm not to impressed. Neither with the art or the storyline. But I try not to truly judge a book until at least the 1st arc or couple of arcs is done.
And by the way Bendis was garbage on the x-books lol
All New Wolverine has been pretty good an Taylor writes her leaps and bounds better than Bendis.
I don't like ANXM at all (though the art is not horrible). Uncanny is out today and Bunn is a good writer so I'm eagerly waiting to read it despite Land and his signature pornface.
I agree that now is not that great of a time to be an X-Fan but I disagree that all the titles are lame. I'd rather suffer through Land's art for good writing than deal with Bendis butchering characters.
@poisonfleur: Those are definitely not the only good titles. Black Magick is great. We Can Never Go Home, Providence, Mercury Heat, A Train Called Love, I Hate Fairlyland. Every single book Valiant puts out is gold. Paper Girls, Zoohunters, Darth Vader, Spider Woman, The Vision, InSEXTS, Dreaming Eagles, They're Not Like Us, Clean Room, Monstress, Plutona, Descender, and Red Thorn.
You just need to broaden your horizons outside of positive CBR reviews my friend.
@judasnixon: That is the series that got me into the X-Men, that and New Mutants. I loved the Cross-Time Capers arc. But as soon as Davis and Claremonte left, that book went to hell.

OOOhhh!! Paper Girls <3^^
I haven't heard of many of these titles. Which do you recommend the most?
And are you reffering to the new pregant Spider-woman? I was going to trade wait that one, because female Avenger stories like Captain Marvel, Scarlet Witch, and Black Widow don't really do much for me. BUT-- I have high hopes for this start of Scarlet Witches new solo.
@hopesummersforthefuture: @jhazzroucher:
Yeah.. but that art just ruins everything. Magik has a derp face on in every issue. And everyone's bodies are wayyy too cartoony. And the page seem cluttered and take away from the plot.
@poisonfleur: Well for me, the best comic out right now is Imperium from Valiant. So I suggest that. I would also suggest picking up the new Death Defying Doctor Mirage series from Valiant that started last month, and the Faith series that is about to drop. Pretty much anything you get from Valiant is going to be much better than the stuff that DC and Marvel is chugging out.
That being said, here are my other recommendations:
- Providence
- This is a Lovecraft style horror book that is amazing. Much better than Simone's Secret Six just because Avatar lets Moore have greater freedoms.
- InSEXTS
- This just started, but it is quality for sure
- Monstress
- Probably the biggest comic world building I have seen in a long time.
- I Hate Fairlyand
- This is really clever and creative
- Mercury Heat
- Really interesting Sci-Fi
- The Zoohunters
- Also amazing Sci-Fi
- A Train Called Love
- This is a raunchy comedy book, worth the money
- Black Magick
- Really interesting wiccan book.
- We Can Never Go Home
- Fun teenage adventure book that Bendis tried to get ANXM to be like (but failed horribly)
- The Vision
- I never recommend Marvel or DC, since they are not doing so hot right now, but this is completely unique to the mold.
- Spider Woman
- I have major nostalgia for this, since Spider Woman (1st volume), was the first full run I ever read (1-50).
So does anyone on the X-Men forum on Comic Vine actually like the X-Men?
It's just that aside from this complaint about the new books, we've had people trashing Bendis' Uncanny X-Men and All-New X-Men, people trashing Whedon's Astonishing X-Men, people trashing Morrison's New X-Men, people trashing pretty much the entirety of 1990's X-Men comics... Honestly I'm starting to think maybe you guys just don't like the X-Men. If you hate every run on X-Men, how come you claim to like X-Men so much?
Ah dunt ged ett
@minisaladfresh: I think Whedon's X-Men run is ok and so was Morrisons. Bendis is what most people have contempt with currently, but thats always been addressed. Unless you're following the book for the characters or just interested...or the usual MCU reader or casual person who takes a mild interest, then a lot of constructive or harsh criticism has some basis or foundation. 1990s X-Men was awful to decent, but thats because of the later years with Liefeld and the Wolverine wank and horrible storylines.
@galerion: IGN? LOL. Dude thats website is a wank for whats a popular and one of the most toxic online environments behind youtube.

Sure. I agree. In that case they are right though.
@poisonfleur: mm so far I think the only book I feel good about is Uncanny. All New is pleasant but shallow, and Extraordinary is off to a dull start. What you said about the writer picking his favorite characters was dead on.
I think the main problem with the X-Books is that the big situation that's shaping their run is the T-Mists. Unfortunately, that just isn't a very interesting storyline. I share everyone else's disappointment with Bendis, but at least during his run the plot was driven forward by the conflict btw the two X-Teams, which made things more interesting. Extraordinary so far has no real character drama, romance, or high stakes action.
I am hoping that the books will get better when we get to Apocalypse War. I don't think they're bad tho, but they're not that great either.
Didn't realize Insexts was out yet!
I think Marvel is doing really well. Marvel and Image have me at an all-time high as far as comics go (with a small handful of Boom!, Valiant, DC, and Dark Horse mixed in), but the X-Books just aren't that great. However, Uncanny X-Men seems really promising and I felt that special adrenaline rush that X-Men books used to give me.
Seems like everyone is on board with Uncanny X-men. It's crazy-- because I saw the line-up and like most of us I scratched my head. Although it's good to see Monet apart of a main team.
@dman1366: Thank you! I'm going to look into a couple of these. I generally don't jump out of Marvel or Dc unless I like the writer, cover, or something else catches my attention. But I really need my fix right about now. LOL
Thank you.
I feel like the new wave of creativity at Marvel is bred out of the years of critical (and now commercial) success Image Comics has had in recent years.
My personal recommendations are Kaptara (if you're into space comedy), Welcome Back (for some life-pondering adventure), Clean Room or Harrow County (if you're into suspense/horror; Harrow County is also written by Uncanny X-Men scribe Cullen Bunn), Bitch Planet (for a good feminist/underdog story), and Wayward (for some classic super-powered teen adventure).
Also over at Marvel, it seems a bit removed from a lot of the other superhero stuff but WeirdWorld has been amazing so far. The relaunches of Ms. Marvel and The Mighty Thor have thus far exceeded the quality of their predecessors.

Land does not trace porn. He usually does model or his own and arguably other people's work in comics. He just also draws faces weird, and people call it "porn face."

75% of time, I have no problem with this. However the other 25% he misses the character entirely-- Particluarlly the younger characters like Idie, Quire, and the Cuckoos.

What is wrong with you!? YES there are good X-Titles out: Extraordinary X-men and Uncanny X-men are really good. *sigh* I'm disappointed in my friend ;-(.

XX-Men wasn't great, either.

Okay... sign all you want--
Extraordinary X-men is not extraordinary. And is the biggest disapointment, considering Storm is leading. I wish Warren Ellis was writing this book.
Uncanny is alright. The line-up is random tho.
Same with All-new X-men. And I don't really relate to any of the characters.
But nothing is grabbing me as a reader in the x-titles.
Personally I feel we still don't have enough x-titles.
Before, there was something for everyone. Personally, I enjoyed reading XX-men's first 3 arcs.
But when you cut the team books in half-- someone's bound to get disappointed. It's half the chances to find a X-story to relate to.

I'm co-signing on "InSEXTS" and "Moonstress". I am also enjoying "Head Lopper". I do think that eventually it is possible to lose interest in superhero comics - the storylines tend to repeat, event fatigue can set in, and not much really happens.

I shall look into InSEXTS since I keep hearing about it. But I think my biggest issue with comics is character consistency. I find a tittle I like and then it's GONE after a couple arcs or so-- XX-men, Storm, Wolverine and the X-men. Say what you will about Bendis-- but at least there was singular consistant vision that made sense. Right now just feels so unbalanced. Extrodinary feels like the writers snatched up all the good character and has a terrible artist and rough story. Uncanny seems nice-- but the line-up is clearly made up of leftovers... And I don't care much for All-New Wolverine or All-New X-men. Sorry. Just not interesting to me. This is stupid because there are MANY X-men to be utilized and yet-- Rogue, Dazzler, and Gambit are playing with the Avengers. Beast is with the Inhumans. Cyclops and Emma are MIA. Some are X-characters are being killed off. Kitty is a Gaudian of the Galaxy. This just seems like the X-men are in crisis and scattered and even the own X-men don't care.
@poisonfleur: I don't think Bendis was consistent at all with characterization, so I can't say he was good in that respect. I guess you mean a singular consistent vision of Cyclops and Wolverine being the focal points?
Claremont had mentioned some of the thematic problems years ago with having the X-Men outnumber the other superhumans, and so many alternative characters, such as Magik, Pixie, Meggan, and etc., on the team who diluted the mutant concept and made the X-Men more similar to what the Avengers were. I think the current team is just trying to clear the deck, and reassert the idea of the X-Men as persecuted minorities.
Did Claremont really make that criticism? He himself created a lot of mystical connections to so many mutants though, including Storm, Forge, Magik, Psylocke, Amanda Sefton, and I'm sure a handful of others. I really enjoy magic-based titles (I actually enjoy Thor and Doctor Strange over all of the X-Men titles), but I particularly don't like imbuing mutants with occult-like abilities and that's something I've always associated with Mr. Claremont.

When I say consistent, I mean that he was writing 2 x-books and guardians. And he had a singular story that seemed to function with his vision. I wasn't talking about whether you liked his story or not. Bendis can be hit or miss. House of M was my jam--- off topic! The x-teams now just feel so un-unified...
